Rush Greeted Like Rock Star
NewsMax ^ | February 9, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 02/09/2005 9:21:23 AM PST by Kaslin

America's top radio talker Rush Limbaugh was greeted like a rock star on Monday during an appearance in San Jose, California, while taking a few days off from his regular broadcast to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament.

The packed house at the San Jose Civic Auditorium "welcomed him with a standing ovation," reported the San Jose Mercury News. "There were no hecklers or protesters, and the only shouts were of love for the host," the paper said.

"We are in the midst of a seminal historic shift in this country," Limbaugh told the audience. "The Democrat party and the media have lost their monopoly. They don't rule the roost anymore."

The watershed political moment would have amazed his father, the top talker observed. "If my father could see what's happened today, just the sight of the Democrat party would extend his life by 10 years."

That's one reason conservatives have nothing to fear from Hillary Clinton, he assured those on hand.

Still, the GOP faces a major political problem that can no longer be ignored, he warned. "The Republicans' failure to understand the American people's building rage on illegal immigration" could give rise to a third party candidate, he said, who could tip the 2008 presidential race to the Democrats, much the same way Ross Perot's campaign did in 1992.

Limbaugh also seemed to revise earlier criticism of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for not being conservative enough, telling the audience, "I was wrong."

2,700 people paid $40 a piece to see Limbaugh live. Proceeds from the event will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a charity Limbaugh has supported since he went national in 1988.

"So what is is, exactly, that you are bitching about?"

So what has Rush said in 2005 about Kerry.

Not 2004

It's 2005, not 2004

It's not Nov 8

it's Feb 9

And tell me, what has Rush said about the false testimony in April 1971

What? Moving the goalposts?

What about all the "form 180" crap?

But since you ask, yes, he did cover the testimony from 1971.

AFFIDAVIT OF STEVEN J. PITKIN combat veteran of the Vietnam War (Kerry pressured him to give false Winter Soldier testimony)
http://ice.he.net/~freepnet/kerry/staticpages/index.php?page=PitkinAff

Pitkin Affidavit
AFFIDAVIT OF STEVEN J. PITKIN
STATE OF FLORIDA

COUNTY OF PALM BEACH

Before me, the undersigned authority, personally appeared Steven J. Pitkin, known, to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to this instrument, who, after first being duly sworn by me, upon oath stated:

1. My name is Steven J. Pitkin. I am over the age of twenty-one years, and I am fully competent and able to make this affidavit. I am able to swear, as I do hereby swear, that all facts and statements contained in this affidavit are true and correct and within my personal knowledge.

2. I am a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the Ninth Division of the U.S. Army beginning 25 May 1969. A mortar explosion wounded me, my wounds gradually became infected, and I was treated in an Army hospital in Okinawa. I contracted hepatitis C from blood transfusions I received during that time. I left Vietnam on 28 August 1969 and was honorably discharged from the Army on 9 September 1970.

3. Medals received for my Army service include: Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Air Medal, Purple Heart.

4. During my service in Vietnam, I neither witnessed nor participated in any American war crimes or atrocities against civilians, nor was I ever aware of any such actions. I did witness the results of Vietcong atrocities against Vietnamese civilians, including the murder of tribal leaders.

5. Upon my return to the United States I encountered anti-war protestors who, at various times, threw feces, spit, and screamed obscenities.

6. I joined Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), at Catonsville Community College in Baltimore in 1970.

7. In January of 1971, I rode in a van with John Kerry, a national leader of the VVAW, and others from Washington D.C. to Detroit to attend the Winter Soldier Investigation, a conference intended to publicize alleged American war crimes in Vietnam. Having no knowledge of such war crimes, I did not intend to speak at the event.

8. During the Winter Soldier Investigation, John Kerry and other leaders of that event pressured me to testify about American war crimes, despite my repeated statements that I could not honestly do so. One event leader strongly implied that I would not be provided transportation back to my home in Baltimore, Maryland, if I failed to comply. Kerry and other leaders of the event instructed me to publicly state that I had witnessed incidents of rape, brutality, atrocities and racism, knowing that such statements would necessarily be untrue.

9. In April 1971, I attended a VVAW protest in Washington D.C. known as “Dewey Canyon III.” During this event I was present when protestors, including John Kerry, threw medals and ribbons over a fence outside the U.S. Capitol. I witnessed a man holding a bag of ribbons and medals and handing them out to other protestors. I saw that many of the ribbons and medals were not those that would be received by veterans of combat in Vietnam.

10. During the “Dewey Canyon III” protest, others and I confronted protestors who were wearing or carrying Vietcong flags.

11. After the “Dewey Canyon III” protest, I was no longer invited to meetings of the VVAW in Baltimore, and ended my association with the organization.

12. I joined the 5/20th Special Forces Group of the Maryland National Guard in 1974, was graduated from paratrooper “jump school” with honors in 1976, joined the Coast Guard in 1978 and served there until my retirement in May 1997.

(signed) Steven J. Pitkin

Further affiant saith not.

Subscribed and sworn to before me this 15th Day of September, 2004.

Commission # DD235268

I was there... here's my post to a couple of e-lists I participate in...

====

Ah yes, Melanie is definitely in the ranks of Coulter, Malkin and Ingraham. A doll. Complete eye-candy. With, all males noted, magnificent high-beams.

The Doctor of Democracy, Maja Rushie himself, enjoyed a packed auditorium in the center of town. It was his first appearance ever in the Bay Area, which is hardly receptive territory for him or his message. But the crowd could not have been friendlier or more engaged. He was introduced by Melanie, and they obviously think highly of each other though they haven't seen each other for more than two decades. Interestingly, he recounted that an on-air comment he'd made to her in Kansas City landed him in mandatory sensitivity training! He claims he just called her "dear", but she's quite the stunner and it could have been anything.

Rush was in brilliant form, totally "on" and filling up two hours with his patented brand of insightful and incisive commentary, generously larded with humor and bombast. He looked good, acted thoroughly delighted to be amid such a responsive and supportive crowd, and generally kicked out the jambs with a witty and energetic performance that was 100% upbeat and heavy on the inspiration.

The "swear word" that the SJ Mercury article references was pretty mild: he accurately termed some leftist assertion or another "bullshit", to great applause. The off-color story was delicious (and is not unique to Rush; I found a version at http://worcester.typepad.com/pc4media/2004/05/senator_kennedy.html): Some paparazzi shot photos of Kennedy and a girlfriend on his yacht. The first photo showed her jumping into the water, then (and Rush noted "and this was a first") the next photo showed him jumping in after her. The third showed them engaged in what Rush primly and winkingly called "romantic activity". When some southern Senator saw these photos (I forget who Rush said it was; the link above says Howell Heflin of Alabama), he remarked, "Well, well, now. I do believe that the Senator seems to have changed his position on offshore drilling."

Of course, Rush wasn't just lobbing jokes; this was part of a bigger story about a tough audience of top conservative leaders he'd played back in the early 90s, in the early days of his ascension to radio prominence. The joke flopped utterly for that group of stodgy grimjaws, and he was clearly delighted that the San Jose crowd found it to be a total hoot.

Throughout, I was impressed with how quick on his feet he was, and with his vocabulary and general command of the language. He's obviously a bright guy whose intellect runs deep.

By the way, I watched carefully for anything "too" energetic or manic or abnormal or bouncing-off-the-walls, but he seemed to be doing very well health-wise and seemed totally focused and in-control. As on his radio show, he'd occasionally riff on how successful and influential he is, but he's earned the right.

He was sporting what appeared to be a new behind-the-ear cochlear implant processor rather like my own six-month-old unit-- bet I was the only one there who noticed that! Every other time I've seen him since his implant, such as on his excellent 24/7 webcam, he's had the belt-worn processor. I'd wager his trip to the West Coast coincided with a two-year-anniversary tune-up at the House Ear Clinic in L.A., with the new processor as a bonus. We can be sure he's enjoying that.

His only concession to his deafness was that questions from the audience were to be written out and handed to the ushers before the event began. Even so, he had a little banter with one guy from the back of the room-- impressive. The implant is obviously working extremely well for him.

So what has Rush said in 2005 about Kerry.

And AGAIN I ask you. What does it matter when Tim Russert asked Kerry point blank to sign the form, and he didn't?

I realize YOU would like him to cover this every day for three hours, but nobody else.

Which reminds me, since all this has been public knowledge since the 70s, why didn't you, as an aggreived party, say anything about it until AFTER Kerry ran for president?

Why did YOU hide his transgressions for so long?

"But since you ask, yes, he did cover the testimony from 1971."

And Rush called Kerry a liar?

You do know Winter Soldier was based upon lies, right?

"Phony Vietnam veterans alleged in books
Guenter Lewy's 1978 book America in Vietnam (pages 316-317) and B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley's Stolen Valor (Verity Press, Inc., Dallas, Texas)(pages 113, 131-137) contain similar information about alleged flaws in Lane's book. Neither book, however, refutes any of the testimony given during the Winter Soldier Investigation.

Lawyer and leftist activist Mark Lane was one of the organizers of Winter Soldier. In 1970, Lane had published a book called Conversations With Americans purporting to be interviews with Vietnam veterans about war crimes, containing Vietnam tales of atrocities. Reporter Neil Sheehan showed some interviewed in Lane's book had never served in Vietnam and others had not been in the situations they described. Lane admitted he did not check military records, as confirmation of details was not relevant. Lane later confirmed these militarty records.
The following are often falsely listed as being participants in Winter Soldier, but were actually in Lane's book instead. This confusion is probably due to Stolen Valor having an explanation of Lane's history within the section on Winter Soldier.
Chuck Onan, stock room clerk in Beaufort, S.C.
Michael Schneider, deserted in Europe and deserted again in the USA.
Terry Whitmore, was in an unpopulated area of Vietnam.
Garry Gianninoto, medical corpsman at battalion headquarters.
VVAW leader and Winter Soldier co-organizer Al Hubbard lied about being an officer, and sustaining war injuries - but he never testified at Winter Soldier .
According to the investigative work of Burkett, Lewy and others, there were many imposters, liars, and plain nutjobs who infiltrated the ranks of the anti-war movement, and, in some cases, testified to war crimes and atrocities that never occurred in order to get attention, sympathy, and, in one documented case, medals and honors."

http://www.worldhistory.com/wiki/W/Winter-Soldier-Investigation.htm

"...At the time, Kerry was serving as the point man for the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. The president of the organization was Al Hubbard, who claimed to be an Air Force captain who was severely injured during his service in Vietnam.

It turned out Hubbard was a sergeant who never served in Vietnam.

He did, however, as Kerry knew, serve the communist cause with great enthusiasm and distinction – making propaganda trips to Hanoi paid for by the Communist Party USA. "

You are right, Rush has no say so or audience.

His words would mean nothing to Kerry.

"El Rushbo Mega-dittos"

It's still hilarious to me to listen to liberals rant about 'dittoheads' and show their total lack of understanding of the Limbaugh program.

Ok, for you lurkers out there...callers are not 'dittoing' Limbaugh's views, pledging some kind of cult brainwashing like the lefters think.

Callers are dittoing another caller who, way back when, dispatched with the then-obligatory "Rush, we love you, don't go anywhere" by simply saying 'ditto what that guy said' (referring to the previous caller who had heaped such praise.)

Wouldn't be the first time a liberal writer with an axe to grind against free-speech radio got it wrong.
