Thanks for the ping to a good thread, NRT.

I don't know if DeLay is blinking or not. We'll see.

They thumbed their nose at our laws, I'd rather have them deported and barred for life. We can get guest workers from elsewhere, including from among the ranks of those who have already applied and are waiting in line while the illegals trample in. There is no way you can give preferential treatment to the illegals to the detriment of those law-abiding applicants and say that the process is just and fair.

I agree. Good honest people wishing to emigrate to our country, sometimes wait for years. I'd much rather welcome these people to the US, than worry about what is sneaking over illegally. It seems like there are still people that cannot grasp the fact that we are living in a different world these days. 9/11's lessons are lost on them. Also, there are people here who want to do the jobs that are being given to illegals. All we want is prevailing wage. You can't compete against someone who will work for half that amount, under the table.

"That situation doesn't exist except in isolated rust belt states where labor unions and governments hostile to businesses have decimated the job market."

Nonsense, pure and simple, this is happening across our country.

" In most parts of the country there are labor shortages of the type people you describe."

Wrong again, immigrants are undercutting native born Americans every step of the way. Scumbag employers / tax cheats pick illegals as employess because they hammer them like slave drivers and pay "below" market wages.

" California is experiencing such a severe labor shortage at its ports that several shipping companies are relocating to Houston."

HAHAHAHA...
funny you quote California....a small businessmans nightmare.

OVERTAXED, OVER-REGULATED California...not exactly a case study in the middleground of American corporate business climates now is it?

"I would be ashamed to admit that I couldn't compete with illegal immigrants in the job market."

Moronic statement. I would not race to the bottom, no rational thinking human being would. Is this what you're advocating?

And the cheerie on top is that you equate American citizens employed in the trades who have to compete with illegals as losers.

Nice.

I'm gonna bookmark your post here and make you choke on it, over, and over, and over.

Once again, you resort to personal attacks on other FReepers and name-calling. If you have a valid point of view to bring to the discussion, then bring it. If it's valid or arguable, then it can be done without personal attacks.
