I am just sick of you and your crowd trying to polarize this issue rather than discuss it reasonably. No one in this thread has talked about Tancredo being a god; you're just using that to bait people. How about discussing the issue rather than other posters? Have you tried that? Or are you, as usual, spoiling for a fight?

Do we enforce our laws or not?
well it appears that the crowd that we have in D.C. will not!
I guess our founding fathers were smarter and had more foresight than we give them credit for...

I believe both gubamyster & Hijinx are out taking care of personal matters, hence the dearth of pings lately. Remember the backup: In FR's search box type "aliens" in the keyword category and make sure that "aliens" is in the keyword list of any illegal-immigration related articles you see here.

Here's No_Doll_i's amnesty comparison tables again.

They go back to Mexico regularly anyway for Christmas, funerals, birthdays etc..

the ones who have tourist visas (i.e. illegal worker with documents) do, but the true illegal (meaning one who has no permission to enter or work) is reluctant, given that he'll have to pay $1000 for a coyote to get him back into the US.

"Returning to their home country to apply." may appease the anti-Mexican crowd, but it won't make much difference to the illegals from Mexico.

it'll make a big difference because they will have to quit their jobs, go home, and wait - it's not like their quick 2-week trips home for the holidays

Just once I would love to NOT see bayourod on an immigration thread. I hope he is getting a good kickback from Karl Rove for his open borders blabber.

The skids are definately greased for the FTAA. No doubt about that one.

"That's one way to get them the heck out of this country to never return!"

But it won't work if we're going to continue allowing felon employers safe haven or not make it tougher on illegals already here or not create some border barrier to make it extremely difficult to traverse at undesignated points.

Fine those who employ illegals $1000 per illegal, first time; $10,000 per illegal, second time; and progressively increase the fine.

Mandate that illegals caught will be conscripted and required to perform 2 years minimum of military service.

[Watch them scatter back to Mexico.]

My suggestion for a compromise bill would be one requiring placement of troops on the southern border, three feet apart, and welcome "guest workers" who score 150 or more on a standard IQ test administered by the Border Patrol. Anyone hoping to enter scoring less than that would be turned back.

Wasn't Tancredo's "plan" calling for one year instead of three year intervals?

Do you know how many "anchors" can be dropped in three years?

I'd opt for a shorter term, but the logistics might not be feasible. Maybe a compromise of 18 mo's with restrictions that no child born to immigrants in the program are eligible for citizenship or taxpayer funded benefits unless one parent is a citizen of the U.S.

I'd like to think there is plenty of ground for compromise to handle the problem - but the proposals have to be comprehensive in nature, ie. SSI, legal identities, immigrant quotas, the host country's willingness to reimburse the taxpayer for benefits acquired by immigrants, etc..

I couldn't get into the article you linked w/o registering... which I don't want to do. I have read several "versions" of this news story today. I am giving DeLay the benefit of the doubt here. Requiring illegals to go back to the native homeland to register is a good idea. Not that I think enough of them would do it. DeLay typically stands his ground on issues he believes and issues that are important to his constituents. I will be surprised if he buckles under on this... we will see.

Thank God for the founding fathers. The absolute bottom line for me on this issue is, given the fact that our servicemen and women have died, been gravely wounded and daily risk their lives in foreign lands to bring freedom and sovereignty to those people, the fight is ultimately in the best interests of OUR national security. So, why be lax at home in ways that contradict our military's best efforts over there? And, how on earth do we ask them to come home to a nation that is being surrendered piecemeal to another nation, a nation that we can no longer call sovereign? I cannot ask of our heroes that they be insulted and dishonored in this way.

The contradiction between the CIC's obvious respect and gratitude for our soldiers and the deteriorated homeland awaiting them just frustrates me to the utmost!

I am not as charitable as you on this Ash Wednesday...
These clowns have had more than three friggin' years to secure the borders and ports and they have not done it!
And it nothing short of a miracle that we haven't had another terrorist attack in America since 9/11!
This song & dance routine is waaaaaay past being ridiculous!

Bring in the National Guard and "get 'er dun"!!!

Now you're talking. About the only "stand" we can take at this point is to literally stand at the border. The new intel bill called for 2,000 new BP agents per year x 5 years and was reportedly scaled back to 200 for the coming year. I don't get it.

Will putting some of them to a little inconvenience make you feel better? Is that what your sense of justice needs to satisfy your indignation over them violating immigration laws?

But it won't make any difference in the long run. The losers who now blame Mexicans for their inability to keep a job still won't be able to keep a job.

The people who are dependable, have a good attitudes and take pride in having the job will continue to be promoted while the sorry little whining malcontents will continue to get fired. When government tries to force businesses to hire union bad employees, the businesses will find some way around it or relocate to areas with non-hostile governments.

....sounds reasonable, they broke the law....so let the onus be on them.

Give the 6 months to return to their own country...find an employer here in the US who will hire them, and when matched with an employer, they can come (back) in. I still do not see why these lawbreakers should be granted the privilege of American citizenship.
