"He's basically being such a jerk about it because he doesn't like how he was treated by the kid's father. So he's gonna punish a little kid, for something the kid's father did."
Which makes you wonder if the he kidnapped the dog in the first place.
Would that make it a federal offense?
I think you should send your story to this lawyer. Obviously, he thinks differently.

"Why don't they split the dog right up the middle?"
LOL! (Yeah, I'm weird that way.)
Then we'll just have a dead dog. The kid will say "take it!" to save it's life and this schmuck of a lawyer will have it sliced anyway.
Please keep us updated and let us know if the boy gets his dog back. I can't imagine how I would feel if I lost one of my dogs that way. This story definately needs a Happy Ending!
Shut up! :-)
You're mean.

WHITE TEXT on a BLACK BACKGROUND.
Story sent to Drudge...
This kid will get his dog back. There is no way the lawyer will be able to keep it.
Question, it seems to me the lawyer is lying about diffrent parts of his story, so what does that say to what kind of lawyer he is? Isn't there something called ethics?
If I were his law firm, I would not want this kind of publicity.
Even if the kid gets his dog back, this lawyer is living (at least for a short time) with this hanging over him. Once this story hit cyberspace (case in point "FR") it will grow wings. I have a hunch this guy already regrets he ever saw that dog.
On the other hand this arrogant personal injury lawyer may try to get in a last dig by the kid's dog off at his local dog shelter with instructions that it be put to death.
This thread deserves an update when one is published.
The family ought to file a grievance agaisnt the lawyer with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Discipline Commission, based on thelawyer's alleged violation of the statute you quoted. That would jeopardize his livelihood and attract his attention far more effectively than just criminal charges.
In that case he might be facing a very large, legitimate claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress in the course of the commission and covering up of a theft. His malpractice insurance wouldn't protect him.
I am now acquainted with the story of the biggest a---ole in Chicago.

The lawyer will call the family and offer to send the dog back for $3000. Then he will claim he tried to send back the dog.
Otherwise, I bet he kills the dog to bury the story. "Ooops...hit by a car."
I almost died lauging! Aren't you making a big assumption???!!! That he HAS a conscience???
what do you expect from such a putz. I bet he also votes dem.

The lawyer jerk boasts about father in his Law Firm's website. Hope his dad (where ever he is) is proud of son now.
