Hey, did you hear the one about the Chicago lawyer who found a 7-year-old Florida boy's lost dog and took it home to Chicago?
And how the alleged dognapping Chicago lawyer now refuses to return the dog to the boy, because the lawyer says he gave it to a mystery nun whom he won't name?
You didn't hear that one?
It's no joke to Miles, the little boy from Cape Coral, Fla., who misses his dog. Miles was sobbing on the phone.
"Please," Miles said, crying. "Can I have my dog back? Can I have my dog back, please?"
On New Year's Eve, Miles' mixed-breed pal, Ariel, was staying with a neighbor while Miles' family was on vacation. Ariel looks like a Labrador retriever. She escaped from the neighbor's fenced yard.
"I felt sick," said the neighbor, Michele Crews. "We posted signs, asked neighbors. Nobody had seen her. My mother, she's 76, went to the pound all week long. If anyone else had found her, I'm sure Miles and his family would have their dog right now."
Unfortunately for Miles, anyone else didn't find the dog. The family of Chicago lawyer James Foley, of the law firm Hoey & Farina, found the dog running loose.
Ariel is a good-tempered dog, friendly and gentle, the kind of dog anyone would like as a pet. There were dog tags on the collar, so Foley contacted the veterinary hospital on the tags.
The vet was in Alaska. Foley left his cell-phone number with the Alaskan vet, so the dog's owners could call him.
But by the time Miles' family reached Foley, he had the dog with him in Chicago. Foley had paid about $300 for shots, an air crate and airfare.

The right thing to do is to give the dog back. But we ARE talking about a lawyer here...
Even if the tags were updated, from the sound of this guy, it appears he would have taken the dog anyway.
And the shelter wouldn't have euthanized the dog if they were aware it was reported and family members were searching for it.
Sorry A** lawyer ought to be strung up!

This was on DON & ROMA this Am WLS Chicago 890. It was about five to one in favor of sending the dog back. Don sided with the lawyer.
Maybe the little boy's father irked the lawyer off to the point that he's now he obstinate about the whole thing.
I wonder if he goes to bed at night with a clear conscience?

(1) Whenever any person finds any lost or abandoned property, such person shall report the description and location of the property to a law enforcement officer.
(2) The law enforcement officer taking the report shall ascertain whether the person reporting the property wishes to make a claim to it if the rightful owner cannot be identified or located. If the person does wish to make such claim, he or she shall deposit with the law enforcement agency a reasonable sum sufficient to cover the agency's cost for transportation, storage, and publication of notice. This sum shall be reimbursed to the finder by the rightful owner should he or she identify and reclaim the property.
(3) It is unlawful for any person who finds any lost or abandoned property to appropriate the same to his or her own use or to refuse to deliver the same when required.
(4) Any person who unlawfully appropriates such lost or abandoned property to his or her own use or refuses to deliver such property when required commits theft as defined in s. 812.014, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

The law offices have been open for over an hour by now, my guess is the dogs flight back to FL is already booked, and the pouch is already on the way to the airport.
....It must be a lawyers' joke. Someone might want to call Hoey & Farina in Chicago and ask them to explain the amusing punch line. I just don't get it. It doesn't amuse me.
Yeah, it's more like a joke of a lawyer. Yet one more data point as to why I hate lawyers! This guy's a first class PR#%K!
Lawyers seem to think they own the world! I hope many, many, many bad things befall this guy and his D-bag firm.
I'll bet he's waiting for the family to post a reward poster and then claim the reward and charge the family for shipping the dog, claiming reimbursement for any other expenses and all other "associated" costs that lawyers like to charge. Even down to the paperclip and staple.
This guys story doesn't pass the smell test all!

What's next, a child who's lost his parents running around some mall saying he used to live in some other state "being claimed" by some AH?
I don't think so. If you find a dog, then bring it to a shelter and tell them you want it if no one claims it. These people were clearly searching high and low for it and to have a "professional" attorney behave as such, well, it doesn't surprise me. Most of the lawyers that I know or have known are AHs.
This guys definitely part of the 99% of lawyers that give the other 1% a bad name.

Either way, Mr. "Brains" lawyer can't figure out where the dog is? Come on, apparently he thinks he's in court.
Both my dogs have microchips. It's great, although the black helicopters circling my house are very troubling.
