This is No. 10 in a series to expose what the political left is doing in our colleges and universities. Parents, in many cases, you are wasting your money paying for your kids' education. Buy a motorhome with the money and enjoy your golden years. Visit the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, the Bush Library in College Station, the Vietnam Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, and Chappaquiddick.

Course: WOST 187: Introduction to Women's Studies |
|
Course Catalog Description: Introduces basic concepts and perspectives in Women's Studies. Focusing on both historical and contemporary women's issues, this class examines women's issues with an emphasis on the intersections of gender and race, class sexuality, and ethnicity. The central theme is to foster critical reading and thinking about "gender." |

Comments: I must say as a whole, my professor follows the course description, however, she works her own agenda into it. For example, we are learning about the "double oppression" of slave women (being black and a woman) and my teacher is constantly male bashing and white bashing. She makes it seem like every black woman slave was at some point raped by a white man. She dismisses the efforts of the white abolitionists and even accuses Abraham Lincoln of preferring slavery. The constant thing is the way she makes ALL white upper class men of the late 1800's, early 1900's out to be evil, oppressive, lying, cheating scoundrels. On March 5, 2003 my teacher put up "8 myths about war in Iraq" on the overhead for all to see. These "myths" included such things as "The US Government wants to free the Iraqi people." She continued to criticize the Reagan administration (for 1. increasing military spending, 2. attacking big government, and 3. attacking unions), and she attacked the Republican party blatantly. She faulted the Republican party for healthcare woes and university budget problems. She then encouraged the "student walk out" planned for noon. Students were supposed to walk out of their class to join the anti-war rally at the student union. The most hypocritical part was that a T.A. kicked out a girl in the back of the class because the girl was talking and it was disturbing to the lecture. I wonder if she thinks getting up in the middle of the lecture to go to the anti-war rally would disturb a professor. Very Typical of UMass Amherst. |
|
|
Comments: My discussion section T.A. has done a fine job of keeping her political bias out of the classroom thus far. She sticks to the topic at hand, Women's Studies. |
|
|
Comments: The texts are "A People's History Of The United States" by Howard Zinn and "A Transdisciplinary Introduction to Women's Studies" by Avakian and Deschamps. Perhaps the books themselves may not be biased (I doubt it), but the selections my professor picks out for us to read definitely are. For example, we jumped immediately to the fifth selection in the Avakian book titled " White Priveledge and Male Priveledge." The readings, from Howard Zinn's "Peoples History of the United States" portray white people in a bad way in every reading. |

Thank you, G-d, for giving me the strength to study science and mathematics.

"Thank you, G-d, for giving me the strength to study science and mathematics."Ditto. Anyone who would take a course labeled gender/women/race studies is an idiot. If no one signed up for these classes, then the profs would be out of jobs. College is a waste of time, except for hands-on courses such as science labs, art/music studio courses, etc. The sociology/history/lit stuff you can get from libraries and the Internet.

"Enemy" ususally denotes people you want to utterly destroy, while "opponent" is someone you want to defeat in a particular area, e.g., in the education of students. Just a reminder that all citizens of Upland may wish to take note of.

"Very Typical of UMass Amherst."
I thought EVERY class at a school like UMass Amherst was like this... a little liberal indoctrination here, a little conservative-bashing there... what I'm trying to figure out is why this thread is in the News category. Bias like this at universities is not news!

Sounds like a cake course to me, for a woman, just don't aggravate the crazy lady professor and get a easy general studies credit. Sounds like lots of blah blah blah stuff to be thrown up on the exam and then forgotten. I would think that it is not a great course for a guy to take since she doesn't seem to like men.

"Thank you, G-d, for giving me the strength to study science and mathematics."Yeah, me too.. Glad I took up engg, usually no biases in science/engg.. physical sciences and engg are usually pure, uncorrupted by subjective interpretations of people who teach them. With higher education in science/engg you can contribute very much to society through new inventions and products. On the other hand, the only good think abt higher education in social sciences is, you can fulfill your "ego" by easily getting a PhD with little effort.
