Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley yesterday accused agents of Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s administration of spreading false rumors that he had an extramarital affair, and Ehrlich responded hours later by dismissing a longtime employee.
The mayor, a Democrat considering a bid for governor in 2006, said he believes that the widespread and persistent rumors were part of a "concerted and orchestrated and sustained" effort and called on the Republican governor to apologize to his wife and children. "I don't think any of us run for office expecting that this sort of hurt will be heaped on our kids or our spouses," O'Malley said.
Ehrlich said an apology was premature and denied any personal involvement in spreading the rumor. He then asked for and received the resignation of Joseph Steffen, a longtime aide working in state government. Steffen confirmed yesterday that he had discussed the rumor on a popular conservative Web site and in private e-mails, which were given to The Washington Post.

I concur with you on all the points you make in your post. I learned long ago, even with not-listed numbers, how easy it is for activists to get your phone number. Socialists and fascists in America scream silly about being "voiceless" and why they need to protect so-called "free speech". Well, Ward Churchill, for example gets paid over $100K/year to speak his mind: The rest of us not-s0-lucky, get targetted by "coincidences". Bet Vince Foster could write a whole book about "coincidences", and his involvement with the party of "free speech".
Bet he could... and, as with so many other things involving RAT politicians, one does have to "question the timing"!

As the person who started the thread from last August, I thought you should be pinged.
See my #313 for my take on the situation. It also includes a link to the original thread.
Any thoughts as to how you heard the rumor? Without naming names, was it a Dem or GOPer who first mentioned it to you? Am I right to believe that you never got it from FR?
As someone who expressed skepticism, rightly IMHO, about the rumors in the original thread of last August, I thought that you should be pinged to this.
My take is at #313 above. That includes a link to the thread of last August.
There are numerous related threads as the full weight of the liberal media empire strikes back against the internet rebels (i.e., FReepers).
Read all about the bizarre hit and run attack on Sade Bederinwa last July on the New York ABC Channel 7 web site. She was reporting on a flooding story after 9:00 p.m. when a driver broke through police barricades, ran directly at her, hit her so hard she flew in the air and "never looked back". Driver never caught. Is it true that where there is smoke there is fire?
A close friend in Balto. told me. To tell you the truth I can't say for certain if they're Dem or GOP!! It wasn't related in a political way but rather in disgust that the city had to tolerate another slimy mayor. One who was more interested in his personal "business" than taking care of the city - bad neighborhoods, crime, bad schools, etc. etc. This person lives in the city and has for much of their life. Retired in the last couple of months, but always held high corporate positions which threw them together with local politicians. As yes, you are correct - I DID NOT GET THIS RUMOR FROM FREE REPUBLIC. As I've stated in another post today, all anyone has to do is register with the Baltimore Sun newspaper talk forums and you read all about O'Malley - check out the archives.
If the Baltimore Sun newspaper talk forums carried the rumor before FR, that would certainly show that FR did not originate it.
It was on the Sun forum section ever since Norris was being investigated and kept getting thrown out whenever a new thread started up.
You are correct - it's been on the Balto. Sun talk forum for about 2 years. BTW, you don't need to register just to read and I encourage all to go there and read the threads. There are the usual left wackos - but lots of confirmations about how long the story has been around.
As I wrote on another post - ATTENTION LURKING MSM: READ THE BALTO. SUN TALK FORUMS FOR ACCURATE INFORMATION OF THE O'MALLEY SCANDAL - THIS IS NOT, REPEAT NOT A NEW STORY THAT SHOWED UP ON FREEREPUBLIC.
RE: Either that or a recipient of the email/FReepmail was a mole
I strongly suspect this to be the case.
I've been to the Baltimore Sun website and can't find their talk forums. Probably, I'm missing it in plain view.

Would you be so kind as to give the web address or link to the forums? Thanks in advance.
Look down on the left side under OPINION and the link TALK will take you to the forums - then just pick a subject you want. I don't know how far back they go, but just today many have referenced that they've seen it on the forum for 1 to 2 years.
Any FReepers want to help me find proof that the Baltimore Sun published the O'Malley rumor on its website talk forum before Free Republic?
The Sun is running hit pieces against Gov. Ehrlich, NCPAC and Free Republic for the O'Malley rumor, but Elkiejg says the rumor was on the Sun's talk forum first.
There's nothing like seeing a bunch of Freepers patting themselves on the back for lying. I'm not too upset though. I can thank Jeff Gannon for getting himself outed and embarassing the White House for my good mood. Seeing another Republican dirty trick outed makes my day.
Indeed. But I'm sure we generate a lot of resentment.
The enemy within (yes, I am using that term) continue to monitor this forum. They have smelled blood. Of particular interest in their minds are high profile people - especially leaders in business, the media and politics - who engage in discussion and debates here. Expect more, not less, of this sort of thing. Free Republic, and the many, many smaller forums similar to it, are a collective thorn in the sides of socialists by whatever formal political labels. We have broken the back of the big government - media complex and they are angry. They are like cornered animals.
Just let them keep doing what they do best GOP_1900ad and they will destroy themselves by jumping the gun like iI think they did on this story.
