Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley yesterday accused agents of Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s administration of spreading false rumors that he had an extramarital affair, and Ehrlich responded hours later by dismissing a longtime employee.
The mayor, a Democrat considering a bid for governor in 2006, said he believes that the widespread and persistent rumors were part of a "concerted and orchestrated and sustained" effort and called on the Republican governor to apologize to his wife and children. "I don't think any of us run for office expecting that this sort of hurt will be heaped on our kids or our spouses," O'Malley said.
Ehrlich said an apology was premature and denied any personal involvement in spreading the rumor. He then asked for and received the resignation of Joseph Steffen, a longtime aide working in state government. Steffen confirmed yesterday that he had discussed the rumor on a popular conservative Web site and in private e-mails, which were given to The Washington Post.

"NCPAC has already admitted he was responsible for spreading the false, scurrilous allegations against Mayor O'Malley."
NCPAC admitted to no such thing. And he did no such thing. If you would go to the link in post 9, you will not find one allegation against Mayor O'Malley from NCPAC.
Katie O'Malley's (Mayor O'Malley's wife) is the daughter of Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr.
Nice to know where you stand around here. With FRiends like you, who needs enemies?
Damn few left who are willing to do that. Good luck NCPAC.
Oh please! Do you live in Md.? The rumors of O'Malley's affairs have been around since he ran for Mayor. If you do live in Md. I doubt this is the first time you've heard them.
To answer your question, I was the National Conservative Political Action Committee's press secretary and second spokesman (to NCPAC Chairman, Terry Dolan) from between 2/82 - 2/84.
I'm not connected to anyone or anything. Just know some state government people. And the democrats who told everyone did not get it here...
Howlin, MurryMom has been causing quite a drama on the Jeff Gannon thread - if you hadn't seen it already.
Sorta like Puxatawny Phil - she has seen THE FREEPER SHADOW. Probably hole up for six more weeks.
No, you won't have a problem getting a new job. Politics apparantly don't require honesty & integrity. Two character traits that you do not possess. You acted like a true democrat getting dirty like that. You are an embarassment to Republicans everywhere. You should be ashamed of yourself. And by posting the lies you invented online shows you're definitely not the "brightest crayon in the box." Hope to not see you soon or ever.
FEAR THE TURTLE!!!
Now that's a real helpful comment. Exactly how was Buckhead identified?
I doubt it.
Signed up today just to say that?
That's why it's good to drop a little consistent disinfo here and there. Nothing dishonest, just wrong. For instance, if you drive a blue car, is it really wrong to tell people on FR you have a brown car? And if you put yourself in a town 100 miles off from where you really live, that's still pretty close, isn't it?
Yes - I sure did. He should be fired. Typical dirty democrat stuff is exactly what he did.
Reading through this thread has gotten me kind of worried, but not really. I ain't no heavy hitter like Buckhead or this guy, I doubt the DNC and their little operatives are worried about me. hehe
HOWEVER, if one is concerned about previous posts, I believe one can ask the Admin Moderator to pull (delete) it if one hits the "Report Abuse" button on one's own post. At that point, (I've heard, I'm not sure if it's always true but it seems reasonable) they will delete your post since the request comes from you, even without a reason.
Boy, I hope that makes sense; I can't seem to form coherent thoughts today. LOL
"Gerry Brewster, a Towson Democrat who ran against Ehrlich in the governor's first congressional election in 1994, said Steffen was well known as "the dirty tricks operative" of Ehrlich's campaign."
Your phone is ringing and it's Karl Rove, he has a job offer for you.
Seriesly, I hope it's not to soon for a little levity, I'm sure this stings. It's the way they scoop up the mudd and fire away, Damn the truth - Full speed ahead!
I do have two real comments:
1. I know you admire the Governor, but your departure was knee jerk. They get the Win on this one.
2. The Rats are on to FRee Republic BIGTIME! And this subject may derserve it's own thread.
My Mom always says: When one door closes, another opens up.
Not sex???
How quickly we forget the serial philanderer, Spend-denning.
