Evening folks...I'm gearing up to buy a pistol for my wife as her concealed carry piece. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions.
As of now, I'm leaning toward Glock. I'm a Sig man personally, but their a little two bulky for her to carry around all the time.
As well, what would be an ideal caliber/ammo/manufacturer for a carry piece?
I have me personal likes (and dislikes) for ammo, but am very interested in what other FR gun owners have to say. My wife has been around gun's all her life and has the discipline of firearms down pat.
As well as looking for "good" firearms, in your opinion, what are brands to stay away from?
I was searching for a thread that was posted (last week I think) that had a boat load of good info on it...
Welp, couldn't find it..so wasting bandwidth now ;-)
Brands to stay away from? Glock, in my opinion. I know lots of folks love 'em, but I prefer an external thumb safety where I can safely keep a round chambered at all times. I'm fond of Smith & Wesson and they have a lot of alloy-type pistols which are reasonably light in weight and small enough for concealibility. Over the years, I've found that no matter how little care and/or attention I give to my S&W pistols, when I got to the range they go "bang" and keep feeding smoothly. And what else matters?
Kimber makes some really nice small .45s. You should check those out, IMHO...JFK
Dude, your killing me, although the missus says the chrome is a nice touch and would bring out her eye's nicely...
fine looking piece though we need to put some Hogue rubber grips on it....esp if you are gonna shoot 357....
#9 Good one LOL
I have one. I love it!
Side note as well forthe thread...any disadvantage to a shaved hammer on a revolver? I like shaved hammers for the "snag" issue.
I don't like the little hand guns...too easy to fumble when you have to grab it fast. I would suggest a Smith and Wesson 38 revolver because they are dependable.
Try a Rohrbaugh 9mm or a Kel-Tec 9mm. The Kel-Tec .32 is also amazingly small (if a bit underpowered). But you know what they say: better to have the .32 that you carry than the .45 that you left at home because it's too big to be concealed on the person.
You can get pink grips for the Kel-Tec. Sparkles you would have to add yourself.
It is easy to carry and conceal. It is an aim and fire weapon without semiauto concerns.
In my opinion, nothing beats a small, double action revolver for fast draw and ease of operation with one hand.
I expect a woman would be attacked at very close range and would need an instant response to defend herself. I expect one or two rounds would be sufficient to end the threat.
Glock 27
Kel tec P3AT
Walthers
Quality revolvers, snub nosed
So many choices, all of them good if they fit what she needs and is comfortable with
Get her comfortable with what she wants
Shoot, and shoot it some more
I have to admit, I don't use 357s too often! LOL
mr. hr says that for a lady, a hammerless 38 special so it won't hang in the purse, but load it with hollow - points for better knock-down power.
My favorite of all (and my wife) is my S&W model 16 .32 H&R Mag revolver - they're very rare now, and considered quite an oddity.
If you get the Ladysmith, shave the hammer. We did.
H&K USP Compact. In Your Choice Of .9mm Or .40 SW $800 List. Probably pick one up for $650 or so. Bobbed hammer won't catch on stuff in her purse.
