BAD SMELL BECOMING A PROBLEM FOR TOWN NEAR CANADIAN BORDER

Northern winds have been sending a stench of manure from across the Canadian border to the town of Frenchville, and the Maine community is tired of holding its nose:

FRENCHVILLE, Maine (AP) -- Frenchville Town Manager Philip Levesque calls it an international problem. Levesque says the odor comes from a chicken manure composting facility in Canada. He says it smells like acid or sulfur, it's really strong, and the last couple of weeks have been especially bad. The town is inviting politicians and government officials from both sides of the Saint John River to meet with local residents February 16th to air the issue.

Officials say complaints to Canadian and state environmental officials have resulted in no corrective action.

With a name like Frenchville, I say they deserve it.

It's Bush's fault.

All joking aside, let me play Cliff Clavin here a moment: desiccated chicken dung is the best damn fertilizer I've ever put on my vegatable garden. I swear I could grow carrots in solid rock with that stuff.

When the French start to smell it means Spring is near.

It's coming from the province of Quebec. Probably turns them on, and they are baffled at the Mainers' reaction.

It comes from all those stinking Frenchies in Quebec.

They stink worse than the chicken Shi'ite.

After the American election, Canadian liberals were forced to "put a sock in it." That's a lot of socks.

My first thought was that somebody might be cooking up stinky drugs or bad chemical stuff. But I guess they've decided it's plain old chicken-&hit.

This spring, I (rather, the wife and I) have an anemic strawberry patch that will be getting an early and (dare I say it!) liberal application of the stuff that exits out the same end as the omlette. That crap (pun intended) could turn The Petrified Forest into a nature preserve.
