Reports: McNabb Sick During Crucial Part Of Super Bowl
AP ^ | February 8, 2005

Posted on 02/08/2005 11:49:37 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was so ill in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that a teammate had to call a play in the huddle, center Hank Fraley said.

"He fought to the end," Fraley told Comcast SportsNet on Monday. "He gave it his all. He was almost puking in the huddle. One play had to be called by (wideout) Freddie Mitchell because Donovan was mumbling because he was almost puking."

Offensive lineman Jon Runyan also echoed Fraley's comments in the same interview aired on two local radio stations on Tuesday after the Comcast report.

McNabb was shaky in Philadelphia's 24-21 loss to the England Patriots on Sunday, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns, was also getting picked off three times.

McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instances and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the NFL, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry and was sacked four times.

An Eagles spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday.

Is it just me, or is your Fabulous No. 5 starting to resemble the namesake of Lincoln Financial Field himself, the Great Emancipator, the ol' railsplitter, Number 16 in your program of United States Presidents, Abraham Lincoln? I saw him in a post-game segment taking off his helmet, and I thought, dang, that looks like the historical character in the black hat and coat in those Lincoln Financial advertisements played incessantly on Fox Sports' NFL presentations!

Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl because he never played on a complete team. In that sense, he was a lot like John Elway for most of his career.

Put Marino on the 49ers, and they would have won 8 Super Bowls in the 1980s. Put Joe Montana on the Dolphins, and they still would have won ZERO.

Dan Marino choked in every big game, bigtime. He had great teams and still lost.

Wonder how the backup quarterback felt sitting on his butt while McNabb was playing while not 100%.

Wonder if he could have racked up 357 yards passing.

He looked shaky on their first series.

Why does raising the possibility of a concussion bother you so much?

because then they can't imply that he sucks because he's black, or that "rush was right", when rush was both inappropriate and wrong.

ever notice how often black players get labeled "thugs" around here, even when they have absolutely zero history of inappropriate behavior?

I go out of my way to encourage a meritocracy, so when I'm annoyed enough to suggest racism, some people better look in the mirror.

instead of "rush was right", put "TO was right". put that DREAMY BRETT FAVRE in TO's or McNabb's shoes, and there wouldn't be enough towels to go around.

I like McNabb but he has a much better defense than Elway did when lost his first three Super Bowls.

The Eagles do need to get McNabb a strong running game like Elway got at the end of his career.

Kelly made some pretty bad decisions himself in their Super Bowl losses.

hi and welcome to his career. not to mention the biggest game of it. his MO is that he gets better as the game goes on after often starting way too pumped.

He never had a good running game or defense. Bob Griese had both when he played for Miami.

I'll take Jim Kelly over McNabb any day of the week. Kelly was tough and never made excuses for his loses.

Believe what you want, Marino is a choke artist.

"It's his teammates that have brought this [injury/flu] up, not McNabb. On second thought, didn't Roethlisberger say something about breaking a few of his toes in the first half of the New England game?"

McNabb needn't said a word. It's understandable that McNabb's teammates would back up their QB no matter what. Nothing however excuses the mediocrity of his performance.

Roethlisberger was asked about his own physical probems and merely answered the questions. And with that he sloughed off questions about his bad thumb and ribs.
