PLEASE CALL GOVERNOR PATAKI IMMEDIATELY TO TELL HIM "NO!" TO FUNDING EMBRYO-DESTRUCTIVE STEM CELL RESEARCH!
CALL 1-518-474-8390
Please state your name and address and say briefly why you are calling.
Background:
Governor Pataki is considering amending his executive budget proposal to add in funding for embryo-destructive research. The Governor has until Tuesday, February 8, to amend his budget. As of Friday, our information is that the Governor has not decided yet. Those who want embryo-destructive research have been applying considerable pressure.
Now, Governor Pataki needs to hear from the citizens of New York who are against embryo-destructive stem cell research!
If it's not convenient to call during regular office hours, you can leave a message on the voice mail.
I don't expect RINO Pataki to do the right thing
The Empire State is just trying to keep up with the Golden State. A losing battle.
Bump it along!
Kathy Gallagher of the NYS Catholic Conference said that if the Embryonic bill passes, it would include CLONING, because there aren't enough embryos to experiment on.
Kathy Gallagher says NYS should have an ADULT stem cell bill, because you don't have to destroy an embryo, and ADULT stem cells actually have helped people.
Eliot Spitzer who is far ahead in the gubernatorial polls against Pataki gave $1,000 to CALIFORNIA's Embryonic research bill which does include CLONING.
I never thought I would vote for Pataki, but if he vetos this EMBRYONIC bill today, I just might vote, for the sake of limiting evil.
P.S. Thanks for posting this, Coleus.

CONSERVATIVES CALL FOR MEDICAID & PENSION REFORM,
NO TAXPAYER FUNDING OF EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH
Ft. Hamilton Station, NY (02/07/05 - 08:00) State Chairman, Michael R. Long issued three legislative memos today to all of the Members of the New York State Legislature.
The Conservative Party, today, urged the Members of the Legislature to reject taxpayer funding for embryonic stem cell research and to reject the deliberate destruction of embryos in the name of research. The science of curing diseases or slowing down the ravages of chronic diseases is a very exciting advance in modern day medicine, and the Conservative Party supports current research doing so, as long as it is not used to create life in order to ultimately destroy it in the name of research, Long stated in the memo. Adult stem cell therapies are being used with great success to treat a wide array of medical problems, including paralysis, the memo states and researchers in Boston are looking into the possibility of human bone marrow as well. With all of this promising research, there is no need to destroy a human life in the name of research, stated Long.
The Conservative Party also urged the Legislators to enact true Medicaid Reform as well as Pension Reform to save taxpayers dollars.
The Governors proposed cap on local Medicaid costs, while it helps in the short term, does not solve the problem. Medicaid spends too much money by offering many options not required by the Federal Government. Families who currently struggle to pay private health insurance do not have as much coverage as those who are on Medicaid, yet, the very same families are paying exorbitant property taxes to pay for state mandated Medicaid coverage, Long stated.
Taxpayers are also saddled by the cost incurred in the Pension system. The State Constitution guarantees that pension benefits will not be diminished or impaired. The Conservative Party calls on the Members to change the current defined-benefit system to one that is defined-contribution, a plan that consists of individual accounts supported by employer contributions matched by employee savings, for example a 401(K). Higher education public retirement systems throughout the country, including SUNY and CUNY employees, are eligible for this pension plan. Over the last 40 years, 85% of SUNY employees have chosen this plan which has portable benefits and a greater degree of control and discretion over their retirement. More importantly, taxpayers would no longer bear the risks associated with market downturns and public pension costs would be predictable, Long continued.
The Conservative Party urges New Yorks elected officials to enact Medicaid and Pension Reform to benefit the taxpayers of New York and to reject any public funding of embryonic stem cell research as well as prohibiting embryonic stem cell research for to allow science to destroy life in the name of scientific research is a moral and ethical disservice to the very people science wants to help, concluded Long.

$10B in Cali is not enough to support the culture of DEATH?
New York Gov. George Pataki, who supports abortion and has been seen as a possible vice presidential nominee, recently called for the party to remove the pro-life plank from its 2000 presidential platform.

(Maybe I should just leave New York State. (sigh))
On second thought I will stay and fight!
My wife called, I just emailed him and I am going to call right now..
Glad to see that the NYS Conservative Party is with on on this one. They have been more active with the pro-life movement lately, like backing pro-life Marilyn O'Grady.
I like Mike and his stand on this issue and abortion.
He seems to be the only one outspoken on these issues in the state.
What other states are requesting funding?
This is outrageous, wonder if we can refuse to pay taxes that will fund stemcell research? (hey I can wish can't I?)
We should be able to be "conscientious objectors" and not have to give our tax $$ for the DEATH agendas.
EMBRYONIC stem cell research is in need of NYS's funding because the money hasn't been coming from private capital investment - it's going where the RESULTS are - which is ADULT stem cell therapies.
EMBRYONIC stem cells have never, ever helped even one single person, while ADULT stem cells have helped tens of thousands.
Called and Bumped!
Thanks for the heads up!
