Why Women Cheat
Expert Reveals Warning Signs
UPDATED: 10:18 am EST February 7, 2005
CLEVELAND -- When you think about cheating spouses, most people think about men, Cleveland television station WEWS reported.
The station reported that the latest trend has more women stepping out on their husbands, and found one story illustrating it.
She was a mother of three who had just celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary.
That night, she told her husband she was going out with her girlfriends. Instead, she went to meet her lover, the station reported.
Mike Lewis is a private investigator at Cleveland's Confidential Investigations Inc.
He has been in the surveillance business for almost a decade. And more husbands are calling him about their cheating wives.
"What they always say, the not knowing is the hardest part. And that's where we come in," Lewis said.
Another woman told her husband she was on a business trip. Instead, she flew to spend the weekend with her boyfriend, the station reported.
"Got 'em kissin," Lewis said.
After watching a video, her husband finally figured out why their marriage was on the rocks.
"Gotta be frustrating because you guys were trying to work it out," Lewis said.
Just how many married women have had sex with other men?
In 1991, researchers asked married women if they had cheated. Ten percent said yes. Compare that to 22 percent of married men who said they had cheated.
In 2002, researchers asked again. That number grew to 15 percent for women, while the percentage of men who cheated stayed the same.
"It's either something they're missing in their relationship, or it's how they're feeling about themselves," said Kathy Dawson, of the Marriage Movement.
Dawson is a relationship coach, the author of "Diagnosis Marriage" and "Cleveland Couples." She helps couples reconnect. Even after infidelity.
"No. 1, if your wife says, 'You don't listen to me.' Oh boy, that's a big signal. Women, No. 1, need is to feel listened to and validated," Dawson said.
A wife starved for attention at home can find herself in the arms of another man. Dawson said when husbands don't make wives feel good about themselves, watch out for the man who does.
"For a man, the most important thing he can do for his wife is to pay attention to her feelings, and listen to her. It doesn't mean he has to agree with everything she says. He just has to prove to her that he heard what she said," Dawson said.
Mike Lewis agrees. In his experience, he found that sometimes a cheating spouse may even let you know what's about to happen.
"Sometimes they do communicate before they cheat. Sometimes they say, 'I'm not getting this. I'm not getting that.' And it falls on deaf ears," Lewis said.
But in the end, the decision to cheat is made by only one person.
"Are you willing to pay the price? Because there is a price. There's the price of how you feel about yourself. If you have children, if they find out, how are they going to react? Sooner or later they're going to find out," Dawson said.
For the husbands mentioned in this story, the infidelity was too much for the marriage. Both divorced soon after. But cheating does not have to mean the end of a marriage.
"It's pretty devastating. Is it a deal killer? No. Are you going to have to work your tail off? Yes. Can you're marriage be stronger? Absolutely," Dawson said.
There's empirical medical evidence that men and women are meant to be monogamous. Women who have their children by one man have less health problems with the pregnancies, have healthier children, and have less death in the years that follow. Men and women are both healthier when they are monogamous, less STD's at least. Married men live longer than unmarried men.
There is truth in this.

>>Not every girl wants to screw a man<<
That may be your term for it, in which case I suggest that you're doing it wrong.
Belive me, it's a lot more fun making love. That's when a guy can make your teeth chatter from the chills and you're sweating at the same time not wanting him to stop.
Throw the right spirit into it and he won't be able to even talk for five minutes afterwards, but he'll come back begging for more of your 'abuse'. LOL
There is a difference between having sex and making love.
Not if he has the video....
My divorce went very smoothly, and she unwittingly supplied the evidence.
Yep! Women are admitting that they too enjoy sex, and womens prisons are expanding at an ever increasing rate as women catch up (down?) to us.
LOL thanks. I'll have to remember your good advice.
You sure are lucky. :) My husband cooks, but he's a minimalist--you know: Hamburgers, oatmeal, etc. He CAN bake if he wants to.
Your husband sews? Sweet.
I must have seen the same film. Makes sense, except they take out the emotional/thought processes involved. The film-maker/writer puts humans at canine level. The "assuming she's been with another guy" thing is kind of insulting. ;)
Admittedly, we can be on the level of canines & the rest of the mammals on the planet, but there's more to it than "my sperm's faster than your sperm."
Did the friendship involve you helping her with her classwork? If so you have a likely explanation for why the relationship ended with the class
Good for you! 3/4 of the people I know who have been divorced have been men who have been heart-broken & bank-broken by merciless, heartless, she-devils. The last story I heard was involving a military guy & his wife. Words to describe her actions fail me.
That "Guide for the Married Man" bit was hilarious! I had forgotten all about it until I read your post. Thx for the great memory!
She opened with the standard restraining order and the poor guy was devastated. When it was over, she had cleaned him out.
I found the evidence, made coppies, and played hardball. I really only wanted out at that point, but with a little thought, figured I could get my stuff and half of what we had purchased together. She got everything she had coming into the marriage, and half of what we bought. The deal was simple. Here is the stipulation, we do this without contention and big lawyer battles and we not only have something to split, I'll use "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds. Otherwise, I'm going to kick your butt in court and use infidelity as the grounds, and I can prove it.
Things got real civil, and when the dust settled, the lawyer bill came to all of $380.00.
The cost is terrible, but it happens all of the time. People wanting the fairy tale, and they don't realize the price. The price of friends, children, family, etc. Until it is too late.
"...Bottom line: a prenup may not be enforcible against her, but certainly WILL be enforced against YOU..."
In PA, as long as there was full disclosure of the assets prior to the marriage....Prenups are enforced. PA recently enacted also recently enacted a statute that requires the prenup to be signed 30 days before the marriage...to avoid last minute pressure on either party to sign. Freedom to contract is essential.....and in PA you are free to be stupid and the courts will not protect you from your own stupidity.
I ask her to marry me again every day.
