VANCOUVER, British Columbia Christopher Key knows exactly what he would be giving up if he left Bellingham, Washington.
"It's the sort of place Norman Rockwell would paint, where everyone watches out for everyone else and we have block parties every year," said Key, a 56-year-old Vietnam War veteran and former magazine editor who lists Francis Scott Key, who wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner," among his ancestors.
But leave it he intends to do, and as soon as he can. His house is on the market, and he is busily seeking work across the border in Canada. For him, the re-election of George W. Bush was the last straw.
"I love the United States," he said as he stood on the Vancouver waterfront, staring toward the Coastal Range, which was lost in a gray shroud. "I fought for it in Vietnam. It's a wrenching decision to think about leaving. But America is turning into a country very different from the one I grew up believing in."
In the Niagara of liberal angst just after Bush's victory on Nov. 2, the Canadian government's immigration Web site reported a surge in inquiries from the United States, to about 115,000 a day from 20,000.

good bye...dont let the door hit you in the butt on the way out...
have fun in the socialist hell hole that is Canada these days....
If they don't want to live here any more, then they can stop voting here, too.
AMF
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...
AS long as they're out and off the voter rolls for the 2006 elections, this makes me HAPPY AS A CLAM.
Please, No, don't come to Canada, we've got more than enough Liberals. Go somewhere that's already really screwed up, and maybe with a nicer climate like Venezuela or something. Please, just go away.
Well, history is replete with cowards and malcontents. There will always be those who will cut and run with their tail between their legs rather than stand and fight for what they believe. Either way, it's no great loss to the rest of us.
Why do these stories matter? Why do these knuckleheads continue to tell us they're leaving?
Do they expect us to care?
Do they expect us to grab their ankles and beg with tears in our eyes, please don't go?
Do they expect us to overturn the election simply because it didn't turn out the way that THEY wanted it to?
Geez...whatta bunch of self-centered, insufferable crybabies ("waaaaaah...I can't have my way, so I'm taking my toys and going home...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah")
I don't know about you all but I think Canada would serve as a great meat locker for all the failed and outdated liberalism we can get rid of.
I have been trying to urge them toward france. On the bright side they likely will not last the winter.
"His house is on the market, and he is busily seeking work across the border in Canada. For him, the re-election of George W. Bush was the last straw."
Take a hike you wanker, eh!
The Key character is a regular anti-American fixture around the web. Au revoir, and don't bother coming back.
yeah the voter rolls thing is what I am afraid of, ESPECIALLY in Washington state....
Leave.
Never come back.
We'll destroy all evidence you ever lived here.
I hope he likes waiting in line for weeks to months to get an MRI. Socialist medicine is really the answer, especially if you are really sick.
I hope they enjoy the services their Canadian tax dollars will buy. Buying discounted medicines developed by America, waiting weeks or months for routine medical procedures (such as chemo).
And Candian foreign policy is quite simplistic. There is none, unless one counts appeasing Quebec.
All the while, living those liberal lives under an umbrella of national defense assured by fortuitous geographic proximity to the United States.
American society will not suffer from the departure of thse folks. Buh Bye. There's a buyer for your house and a line for your job.
Go to Central America in August. I'd not describe it as having a warm climate. Although a trip there may foster an appreciation of property rights.
He's got a website dedicated to moving to Canada.
Unfortunately, that means he's more likely to talk about it than actually do it.
