Here is an updated list of First Sergeants in country to whom toys can be sent for distribution to Iraqi children. The troops are all Vermonters out of a reserve unit. They are, among other duties, in the "hearts and minds" business. Who knows how a small toy can benefit our troops, the war effort, and the United States of America. HMH

Teddy Bears sound good. Any other suggestions as to appropriate toys?
Bump To The Top
I'm a fan of the Holzer's work and also on that list. In another newsletter he passes on the info that the soldiers request USED childern's shoes and clothing. They stress sending used items because new things end up being sold in market places instead of being put on the kids.
Toys for tots ping
Ping for the Iraqi children.
Enterprise ..... How many teddy bears, etc. did you send last month?
Thank you for doing that.
The universal toys would be rubber balls, in fact, balls of all kinds, slinkies, cloth dolls, maybe crayons and coloring books, pads of paper and colored pens...
Please add to the list...

Thank you, FreeKeys! This is the BEST ping I've ever had. I'm on it!
Do you know if they would also like candy, lollipops, or other small edible, non perishable treats for the kids? My boys want to send some baby bottle pops etc, a big box from Sam's to the kids.

And Freekeys? What's our timeframe here? How long will those 1SGs be over there? (Don't give away any National Secrets, of course!)
It's delightful to get that kind of response,Diana!
Anyway, in ADDITION to our own efforts, let's everybody contact VERMONT [expensive] TEDDY BEARS (see http://store.yahoo.com/vtbear/contact.html )-- maybe by printing out and mailing the original post with the VERMONT RESERVISTS' ADDRESSES ON IT -- and ask them to send their "torn, rejected seconds" and whatever they can (SOME must fail inspection, right?) -- keeping in mind what Warrior_Queen has to say in post #4 (above).
Wuddya think?
Folks probably have a zillion beanie babies from the craze many years ago. If they're reasonably clean, there's no reason they can't be sent. Or they can be surface cleaned to make them just right. They're the perfect size for a little one's hands, and even those with hands a little larger, to love.
Dunno. I have relayed your question to Dr. Holzer. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him. In the meantime, you might get some other addresses from here: http://www.booksforsoldiers.com/forum/index.php -- maybe they know some toys for tots programs over there. Whatever, I'm sure they'd appreciate all your old dog-eared copies of A.S., right, Diana?
I would assume so, but then again, I don't know if they'd be intercepted or frowned upon. Maybe some of the soldiers on this board can tell us?
I hear they like school supplies as much as toys. The girls especially need help because the state school system is more supportive of the boys' schools.
Crayons, pencils, rulers, notebooks, etc.
Beanie Babies.
LOL! Well, I can't help it if I have discriminating tastes, can I? ;)
I've sent a few things off through Books for Soldiers. Another good site, that's for sure.
A heard the kids love soccer and that soccer balls are good to send.
Talking Allawi dolls?
