On the Baltimore Sun mb, someone suggested Joe Namath as overrated because of SB III (sour grapes maybe?). Someone else on that thread suggested Bradshaw as overrated.
Well, on this Super Sunday, I thought I'd start a thread for those in the know about overrated/underrated pro QBs past and present, what with two QBs entering Canton yesterday. I'm not necessarily in the know (I work) so I won't be chiming in too much if at all. Anyway, fire away!

Not only was he a great passer but before his knees were destroyed ( intentionally IMHO, similar to what happened to Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins), he was a great scrambler. A very gutsy player.
I have the utmost respect for Broadway Joe, and I was a Dolfan during his heyday.
My pick for the most underrated QB is Dan Pastorini of Houston.
Arm like a howitzer and the team punter. He played on a losing team, sadly.
He couldn't throw a spiral if he shot it out of a rifle barrel.
How he ever played on a winning team is beyond me.
Most Jet fans I've talked to who saw that game agree that Snell got snubbed.
The Colts have to get out of that dome.
Denver's defense should have been more physical with Indy receivers. You can't let them run free and skip out of bounds.
Had a big debut against Northwestern and that was the high point of his career.
He was a good college quarterback in that Spurrier system at Florida. We all saw how that system worked in the NFL.
Manning didn't lose that playoff game. His receivers and his defense did.
'Bout time somebody said it.
Here's a new name for the underrated list...Bert Jones. He played for a horrible Colt team. He had tools like Elway but no help. Injuries ended his career early.
It's depressing... NOBODY runs a decent two minute drill anymore.
When I see quarterbacks throwing over the middle on 2nd and 8 with under two minutes...I just cringe.
I gotta disagree. He stayed in after a near-concussion to beat my Carolina Panthers this year. I thought for sure we'd knocked him out of the game, because Julius Peppers just pounded him. Nope...he stayed in and ran for a touchdown.
The worst - Marc Wilson of the '80s Raiders. Egads, he was horrible.
I don't dispute that he's not performed well passing out of the pocket so far in his career. But I do want to make a few points.
1. Vick is 22-11-1 for his career, 2-2 in the playoffs. The two years he has started the entire season, he's took the team to the playoffs. Say what you want about his pocket passing skills, when he plays, the falcons win most of the time.
2. For the first time in his career, Vick played in a West Coast style of passing offense this season. Vick's passing numbers were actually better in 2002, in Reeves offense. At VT, he ran a very simplified offense. When Dan Reeves was fired last year, the falcons were the last team in the NFL to adopt the west coast style of offense. It takes a few years for a qb to master the offense.
3.Both of the starting O tackles for the falcons were very inconsistant in their pass blocking this year, to put it mildly. They, like Vick, were learning a new scheme, but one of the OT's was so bad this year I'm pretty sure he's being replaced next season. Vick was lucky to get 3 seconds to throw on most pass plays before a defender was on him.
4.The falcon WR core is adequate, but scares no one. Philly single covered the falcon WR's all game long. When your #1 WR is Peerless Price, you have issues. The falcons lack a deep threat WR that will make opposing d's think twice about stacking 8 in the box or blitzing, very much like Philly before T.O., making it easier to stop the run and short passes.
Point is, there are reasons Vick's pocket passing isn't there yet. Many of you say he'll never grasp the NFL passing game. I disagree, so does the falcon coaching staff, Steve Young(Who came in and worked with Vick in training camp this year), and Bill Walsh. As a falcon fan, if I had any doubt as to Vick becoming a better pocket passer, I'd be the first to call for his head.
"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,'' Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."
As much as I hate the Eagles, you'll never hear me accuse McNabb of being a bad, overhyped QB. Than man played an entire game with a broken leg, those comments were so undeserved. Had Rush been talking about Kordell Stewart , he may of had a point...
Yes, Aikman and Bradshaw were similar in the respect of being big and strong with good arms and being on great teams, but that doesn't diminish the fact that they were great QB's, too.
This falcon fan appreciates the back up.
Tell you what, the NFC South is gonna be tough next year.
Your Panthers have to be considered contenders.
The saints got hot at the end of the year. With all that talent, they scare me.
The bucs have fallen some, but still have a very good defense, and Griese played well at QB. It wouldn't surprise me if they contend.
Was John Elway overrated when he lost Super Bowl after Super Bowl?
You're right.
What's disappointing to me at this point is that the suburban/rural Republicans in Indiana are more concerned with pandering to their base than recognizing the benefit that the Colt's brings to Indy. They're acting as if they'd be just as happy to see the Colts go, as they are trying to pin all of the financing on Maron County (Indianapolis), even going as far as to suggest obscene tax hikes - including a hotel/convention tax that would put our tax/rates at the high end accross the US, seriously hindering one of our strongest economical contributors - conventions.
