Washington -- Fremont Rep. Pete Stark made a little bit of congressional and high- tech history Friday by becoming the first member of Congress to post a video clip on his official Web site.
His 3 1/2-minute blistering response to President Bush's State of the Union speech on Wednesday night is part of a new program devised by Democratic activists to let members of Congress communicate directly with their constituents by video. Republicans are expected to follow suit, and soon.
The effort is headed by Advocacy Inc., a small Washington-based firm that has done work for MoveOn.org, the Berkeley-based organization that became a major force mobilizing anti-Bush sentiment in the 2004 election campaign.
The firm charged Stark's office $100 to tape the segment and post it on his site

I bet he thought he invented it...
He may run for president in 08
Uhhh...I'm confused.
I've been able for some time to post video on my web site without the help of a program devised by activists. Why couldn't Congressmen do the same?
Well, we all know how to run up his bandwidth, don't we??? (Turn off sound...Play video...Clean temp files...repeat)
And, how long before the blogosphere dismantles his rant? (I'm thinking it has to be a rant, because the SF Gate has described it as "blistering")
If you are having any problems sleeping, I suggest you view Pete's clip. It is guaranteed to "blister" you to sleep in less than three minutes.
Zowie!
I hope somebody at GOP HQ makes sure and downloads all these special messages for use in future campaign commercials.........
I'm sure they'll leave us a few priceless treasures.

You will need a good strong cup of Expresso to get thru all 3.5 minutes.
Isn't this the A$$hole who was recorded on the answering machine of one of his constituents? Yes, as I typed this I found the recording of the voicemail.
The message was a response to the mans criticism of the East Bay Congressmans stand on the Iraqi prison abuse scandal.
Staff Sgt. Dan Dow, who is a member of the National Guard, said he wrote a letter to Stark criticizing the legislators recent vote against a resolution condemning the abuse of Iraqi prisoners.
Your no vote on this resolution is a disgrace to the people of this district who have elected you, Dow wrote. I urge you to stop your contemptuous display of bitter partisanship.
And Starks response? A personal voice mail.
Dan, this is congressman Pete Stark, the message said. I just got your fax, and you dont know what youre talking about.
I doubt if you could spell half the words in the letter, and somebody wrote it for you, the message went on. So I dont pay much attention to it. But Ill call you back later and let you tell me more about why you think youre such a great goddamn hero.
What a jerk this guy Stark is...
I am truly surprised that, given how much the average congressional blotivator (R or D) loves to hear and see themselves talk, this hasn't happened before.
...they call me....Mistah Fortney!
And they would know all about that, I hear...
