"Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bull****. Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight.
When you, here, everyone of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players. Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American."

As I've asked before, what would the Left and the MSM make of Patton, were he alive today, cosidering how outraged they are over Gen Mattis?
But they kept him around for when they needed him.
Neither Eisenhower nor Bradley were stupid. Though they were good politicians.
They would have hated him of course, without thinking of his value. One principal characteristic of the modern left is that it lacks a sense of proportion.
More like the modern left lack any sense.
Regardless, it is too bad all our generals and politicians don't think like Patton did. Wars would end much quicker.
Absolutely! He was a good field general but that's about it. The world would have suffered much more deaths if he were the one making the political decisions. He was vital to the war effort (I know-a huge understatement) but was also egotistical and maniacal. His value was on the battlefield and that's it. Plus, to say only "real men" love to fight borders on the pyschotic. Those men were heroes who loved their country and did their duty. They did love to fight and kill for the sake of fighting and killing.
Damn, it pains me to see people people over inflate the importance of "old blood and guts". He (for good reasons) was far down the decision making food chain. He played little, if any, relevance to putting together the winning strategy.
Posted a billion times but I always love to read this. Thanks!
I agree.
It's belittling to hear Generals parsing their words like freshman English teachers.
Fuggett PC dictionary, It's called STOOPID.
Can you imagine if he, lunatic would have pushed Russians back to their border? We would not be blessed with Communism, it would have been a boring world. (sarcoff)
At what cost? 50,000 American lives, 100,000 lives? More? What price was too much? Old blood and guts didn't seem too concerned with that aspect of things. But hey, wouldn't he have looked cool parading around Red Square with his ivory handle revolvers? In order "not to be blessed with Communism" we would have had to go not just to their borders, but to Moscow. I agree we could have, no should have, held firmer to keep the Soviets out of Eastern Europe, but invading and going to Moscow after 4 years of bloody war that cost over a half million lives would be madness. Yet, this is what old "blood and guts" wanted to do.
