The residents of a small Iraqi village have killed five insurgents who had attacked them for voting in last weekend's national elections.
Several other insurgents were also wounded.
The insurgents raided the village of al-Mudhiryah south of Baghdad after warning its inhabitants not to vote in the election.
The villagers fought back, killing five of the insurgents and wounding eight others.
The insurgents' cars were then set alight.
Al-Mudhiryah's tribal sheikh says his people are sick of being threatened by Islamic extremists.

ABC in this case is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Our American ABC is just as biased and hostile as ever to freedom in Iraq.

DIck Morris last night called him the "Muhammed Ali of American Politics." Interesting that he chose a muzzle to compare him to.

Excellent!
I was hoping to read that the five bodies were drug through the streets and videotaped for the evening news but hey, I'll take the story as it is.
This is really just the story I was waiting for. Looking forward to more!

Wow, I just went over there (with the obligatory clothespin on my nose) and read through that thread.
I'm actually quite surprised and somewhat pleased by the reaction to this story over there. While there is plenty of the typical state of denial DU is legendary for, there are a good number of folks who are happy about this development.
What's happening with the world? I can't handle so much good news in one lifetime. I'm getting dizzy.

The Iraqi Provisional Government needs to reward this village for taking matters into their own hands.

Here's a little gem from "over there":
"Just because the insurgents are anti-American does NOT mean that they are nice people." (see reply #145 - not making this up!)
I'm floored by this. I mean, WTF is wrong with some people?
I'd like to post and call this guy out on it, but they want too much personal info to register "over there".

Definitely a positive! I guess they feel better about things and more confident now that President Bush was re-elected and has remained staunchly behind them having real elections and having them last Sunday.
They probably realized that it wasn't going to be like in 1991, when we encouraged the Shia to revolt and then stranded them, leaving them to suffer Saddam Hussein's wrath by themselves. That's one of the many things that nearly cost my vote for Bush41.

This is the distinctive period in which sovereignty is withdrawn yet has not returned to nature, but justice is blindfolded. Eventually the territory will undergo the act of indemnity, but for now do what is necessary.
