Does anyone seriously think that 2/3 of congress will approve this?

I prefer actual results over political parlor tricks.

No its not going to happen. But its the beginning of a process that hopefully will lead to the abolition of the income tax and the disappearance of the IRS.

Among the "actual results" we have so far are prescription medicine entitlements, "no child left behind", and an immigration initiative that is amnesty by another name. If these are "actual results", give me parlor tricks any time. At least they're less expensive.

Unfortunately, you are right. Until the GOP gets at least a 2/3 majority in BOTH houses, it ain't gonna happen. I am glad to see it getting some national attention though. We have to start somewhere.

All long journeys require the very hardest first step. Without it no journey occurs.

I don't. I would be surprised if you got alf of them to vote for it. It is not that the politicians are so much opposed for trading one form of taxation for another it is that there are just too many ways to hide taxes that are ultimately passed on to the consumer with the income tax. And the very last thing most politicians want is for EVERYONE to see just how much the government takes from you.

You cannot achieve what you cannot first conceive...

How many times has "W" pulled things off that the naysayers said couldn't be done?

Don't be a naysayer - at least not out loud ;o)

There's a lot of politicians up for election in 2006 - and once "Joe Q" understands this tax, they'll be screaming for it...and there are lot "Joe Q's" than "Cooperate Bobs"

When it comes down to it - the demorats will desert their own ship to save their hides.

If this goes thru - the IRS - little more than a KGB outfit - will not be able to terrorise or have the means to keep track of our every move.

Not to mention the mountains of paperwork and the dreaded April 15th headache. This would one of the biggest guarantees and guardians of freedom we could ask for...

They sure won't if no one submits it, now will they? It's at least worth a try, this year, next year and as long as it takes.

How would you go about eliminating the income tax, without going through Congress. The only other route would be for the states to call for a Constitutional Convention, and pass the amendment there. Either way it has go to the state legislatures for final ratification. A Constitutional Convention is fraught with danger. The last time one was called to amend a founding document, they ended up throwing it out and starting over. Or they could repeal some other amendments that most of us would not like to see gone.

Support for this sort of thing can build over time. Your ignorance of the political process is no excuse for your attitude.

it took 2/3 to get it in and they managed- we should be much more motivated to get rid of it

What are the chances of these bills getting passed if they're not introduced?

Every session they have legislation like this and it goes nowhere. It's like asking a Hollywood star to go to minimum wage to help the homeless....they smile and then there's this snag where the legislation goes nowhere.

Hope springs eternal......but I doubt that the IRS will ever be closed by peaceful means....
