President Bush will deliver his annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 6 PM Pacific time. A live webcast is available here. According to CNN, quoting a top aide, "President Bush will present 'a strategy for success' in Iraq and outline details of his Social Security proposal."

Judge Michael Chertoff testified during his nomination to become Homeland Security Secretary before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

President Bush plans a late February trip to Europe to seek additional assistance from the European Union and NATO in Iraq, and to meet with leaders, including German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

There will be lots of photos tonight during and after the president's speech.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!

Anyone seen Terraayyzzaa lately?

Hiya homemom.

Brit Hume said on his news program today that Teresa Heinz Kerry was asked to speak somewhere and her name was listed as Teresa Heinz. When questioned about the "kerry" omission, "her people" released a statement that the Heinz charitable foundation (whatever it's called, but it's the organization she hides behind when it's useful to do so) had requested she not use the name kerry -- you know, now that the campaign is over. So Fox checked with the charitable foundation and the head of it refused to confirm what Teresa's people said.

Then Brit gave the Zinger. He said that she is known to keep photos of both her husbands in her various homes.

IMHO she has never cut the emotional ties which you must do when you re-marry, not forget but it is now part of your past in her case obviously a very happy past but for the new marriage to work one must now put it in the past.

IMHO she married Kerry not because she was was in love with him but because he was a friend of her husbands and therefore has not to moved forward after a period of grieving - not healthy.

Interesting to read your comments about your parliaments' restraint. I didn't know that was the case because when I see the UK parliament, it's quite vocal.

I don't know why our Congress gets so whooped up. Maybe it's because they have been slugging it out against the dishonorable opposition *and the media corrupts* and when they finally get a whack at the bully pulpit, they let out the stops.

I can just see Brit saying that with that wry smile on his face. :-)

RE: Seeing GWB tomorrow--I GOT TICKETS!!!! I'm soooooo excited (can you tell?!?!?!?) Our congressman is from a smaller district so they had some available . . . there is some hubbub about the congressmen in Omaha and Lincoln giving most of theirs away personally and not to the *public*.

Anyway, I have the tickets in my hot little hands and the alarm set for veeeerrryyyy eeeaaarrrllllyyyy (the doors open at 5:30 AM and we live 2 hrs. away . . . . you do the math . . . I'm taking the digital camera and Wolfstar has graciously agreed to post them if I get some good ones.

Our seats will be in the arena and he will be on the floor so I'd say the chances of a handshake are very slim, but just breathing the same air will be enough for me. :-)

So, is that enough detail for you?

Hope you had a good day . . .

On Brit's news prgram today either he or one of the reporters mentioned that the groans made by the dems at Bush's Social Security numbers appeared as if they might have been pre-arranged.

I think he is right.

Brit seemed to convey a sense of affrontry at the dems' behavior last night, calling attention to how unusual it was.

We have a Congress of whiners and crybabies, on the other side of the aisle, in general.

How low are those scum-sucking Dems to pull the childish disrupting tactics that they pulled?

The democrats have relegated themselves to the job of sucking the algae off the Congressional fish tank walls.

I've thought that, too, what you wrote about Teresa marrying kerry because he had been friends with her dead husband (who introduced them a year before he died). kerry's motives were probably about as clean as Teresa's. Ewwww.

Our Parliament gets excited during debates but this is more the booing and here here comments but you would not get the applause and bobbing up and down of virtually everyone that you got yesterday at the SOTU. It seemed to me even DEMS or as we would say those on the opposition benches applauded albeit not quiet as enthusiastic but they did nod and clap and in some cases even stood which to happen in the UK it would be most unusual.

As an English person it came over almost as though that is the done thing to do rather than agreement with what is being said, the minute it is over you can rubbish it but whilst the speech is being give support is almost guaranteed. Maybe I am reading it a bit wrong but it is very different to what I am used to.

**"Did you hear the people booing?" **

As an English person I find it strange that people are surprised by boos because I am used to whoever is Prime Minister making a statement/speech and the opposition booing.

Am I right therefore in assuming that this speech is more given in the head of state function of the President so it is not normal to have boos.

Hi Snugs.

I watch C-Span a lot and see the sessions with the Prime Minister and it always amazes me they do that to him!

I don't think I've ever seen the President make a speech where he's been booed. May have happened and I just didn't hear it, but that would be considered in very poor taste even for some of us brash Americans. No, I must say I was shocked they did that to him. It might have happened during some of his campaign stops with hecklers, but I've never heard it in a formal situation such as the SOTU speech.

I thought that was very low class. But he certainly expected it and reacted appropriately.

Did he laugh at them? THAT would have been appropriate.

I think we saw the 2nd phase (November was the first) in the end of the Democratic Party as we know it. These people have NO clue, and it is almost painful to watch them keep coming back and making the same mistakes over and over.

It doesn't pain me in the least. I can't think of a group of people who deserve total defeat more, because of their attempts to do political harm to this nation, except the terrorists, who are out to do physical harm to this nation.

I believe, legally, Tuhrayza's name is still Heinz. She never took Kerry's name when she married him.
