President Bush will deliver his annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 6 PM Pacific time. A live webcast is available here. According to CNN, quoting a top aide, "President Bush will present 'a strategy for success' in Iraq and outline details of his Social Security proposal."
Judge Michael Chertoff testified during his nomination to become Homeland Security Secretary before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
President Bush plans a late February trip to Europe to seek additional assistance from the European Union and NATO in Iraq, and to meet with leaders, including German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
There will be lots of photos tonight during and after the president's speech.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
You betcha!
Here I am!
On yesterday's thread, Kath told me I had it backwards. Beezie didn't steal Barney's toy. He stole hers! So she's not a tomboy after all. [big grin]
Thank God for this President!
Thanks, GEM. It's going to be an exciting evening with the State of the Union speech.
And: I am SO touched by Sgt. Paul Smith's wife's statement. She, too, is a hero.
I hear the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed and he's got one of the best speeches ever.
I made the top something or other...
Good evening Gretchen. Flapjack made on way to you tomorrow my friend.
Bump!
That is very kind of you, very appreciated, and above and beyond the call of duty. I am really looking forward to receiving them and finding out what they're like.
After reading her remarks, I have even more appreciation for the quality of the husband she lost. Extremely positive, forward-looking lady. He left an 18-year-old daughter and a son about 10 or 11 (current ages).
Thanks Gretchen!
I like that photo, UpHereEh.
Looking forward to tonight's speech - I hope they show all the Iraqi and Afghanistan people who are invited to sit up with Laura in the balcony...Too bad SOTU speeches aren't allowed video tape - Bush should have continuous tape rolling behind him of those who stood in long lines, voted, etc - a picture is worth a 1,000 words! Visual reminder of all we're helping to fight for...
Hi Kate, and all.
I had a draining day and I want to be fresh and alert when W delivers his SOTU, so I'll be back.
Amazing words from Sgt. Paul Smith's widow. Thanks for posting.
Me too, he looks so confident.
Have a good rest my dear I shall probably do similar as I intend to try to stay up whether I make I am not certain.
My heart goes out to both of the children, but especially to the boy. Reading his mom's comments, it seems the poor kid has kept a lot of his grief inside. Makes me want to cry reading that. Maybe receiving the medal will help him get some of it out.
