President Bush will deliver his annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 6 PM Pacific time. A live webcast is available here. According to CNN, quoting a top aide, "President Bush will present 'a strategy for success' in Iraq and outline details of his Social Security proposal."
Judge Michael Chertoff testified during his nomination to become Homeland Security Secretary before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
President Bush plans a late February trip to Europe to seek additional assistance from the European Union and NATO in Iraq, and to meet with leaders, including German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
There will be lots of photos tonight during and after the president's speech.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
"Did you hear the people booing?"
Oh you bet! At first I thought it was "our side" who was reacting to the possibility of SS going broke, but then a commentator later on said it was the Dems---and yes he handled it with pure class as he does in all situations IMO. Well, on second thought, there have been a couple of times when he said things he probably wished he could have taken back, but I found those humorous and thought it was just his Texas personality coming forth which to me makes him even more endearing.
Forget to reply to the last part of your post, must be the lack of sleep from last night LOL.
Yes the VP did look wonderful, thanks for the info regarding him being on Rush today; yes I am aware of Rushm if you can find a transcript I would appreciate it. Hope to chat later.
You know, one can almost forget sometimes, upon listening to the misery, hate and dourness from the Left, that we are privileged to live in the greatest country in the history of mankind, and we live here among some very positive, kind, unselfish and affectionate people.
**I often think that Dick Cheney has a sort of prideful fatherly look around W, like he is watching a son that he is enormously proud of. Then I remember that they're almost the same age, not the right ages to be father and son at all. When you hear Cheney talk, he always defers to the President, rightly so. But he is also enormously proud of George Bush too, I think. I suspect in their private interactions they treat each other very much as equals. **
Your have a wonderful ways of putting things when I read this post I realised that is what I feel but would in no way be able to articulate it. Thanks for the post.
I have heard from reporters in prior SOTU's as they begin that it is traditional for the president to give copies of his speech to the Speaker and the VP. Didn't notice the names.
It cracks me up that they are still being delivered in plain brown envelopes.
You cannot just waltz in here and say you get to see the president without giving details.
Where are the details?!!!!
Aghhh....I just ate dinner...feeling kind of sick now, but you warned us.
Just saw your question as it's been a busy day. Those are courtesy copies of the speech. It's one of the many traditions that have attached themselves to the SOTU address. Article II, Section 3 of the U.S, Constitution begins by saying, "He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union..."
The Constitution doesn't specify the manner or frequency, just "from time to time." George Washington gave what is considered to be the first State of the Union speech to Congress on Jan. 8, 1790. However, it was simply submitted in writing by every president until Woodrow Wilson in 1914. He gave the address in person to Congress, and that has become the tradition.
Dick Cheney will be interviewed on "Fox News Sunday" (non-cable) this Sunday.
When you say non cable does that mean that FNC on Cable will not show the interview.
Hi folks. My late night to work tonight. I'll be away this weekend, but send me the news anyway. Hubby and I are going to a Civil War era ball. I'll catch up Sunday afternoon before the Superbowl. My team is playing again, so I'm really excited.
Have fun
It's kind of confusing. Fox News is on cable and "Fox News Sunday" is put out via a regular broadcast station like ABC, NBC, or CBS. The program "Fox News Sunday" is one of those Sunday morning news / interview programs sort of like CBS' "Face the Nation" except that it's rational.
It's kind of funny, the effect that barfitorium photo had; crushelits saw it elsewhere and put up a separate thread on it, a "Caption This Photo" thread. It's soooo bad.
Not watching the game, huh? ;-)
Thank you for posting the SOTU photos.
Great pics! Thank you.
What game?
Nice post Wolfstar. It was a touching and beautiful speech, also forceful.
