Dodger, is the God of the Old Testament the same as the God of the New Testment or not?
He is the same, of course, the difference is in how MAN chose to represent him.
In the OT God spoke through others, in the NT his voice was the voice of His son, Jesus.

The moderates you slander in fact are defending their new-found freedoms in Afghanistan and Iraq, and they have every right to defend their own beliefs from attack by half-cocked Bible-thumpers who couldnt care less if what they said was true or false as long as they think they can get apprval from their Amen corner.
And not all Muslims were dancing in the streets on 9/11 and I certainly have not forgotten the few who did. Just because I dont slander all Muslims and call for their forced conversion does not mean I have forgotten what the Jihadists have done.

I was wondering about that as well. JFKlib, please don't misunderstand, I am not accusing you of anti-semitism; its just that when I used to use the yahoo message boards to debate Middle East and/or islamic issues, the defenders of islam would invariably end the discussion by telling me to "shut up, jew". Though I have found little of that here on FR, I'm a little battle scarred.
And many of us Jews will take a stand for our savior too!

I think they welcome any opportunity to use the word bigot. I do wish they would open a thesaurus though, it's getting rather monotonous to see the word bigot thrown around everytime they get into a snit with someone.
Sometimes it's deliberate, sometimes they don't even know they are doing it, and when it's deliberate and you identify it, all you will receive in reply is a denial.
The defenders of islam who call you a Jew on forums think a lot like the fuehrer - herr hitler maintained that Christianity was a jewish religion.
Muslims say 'first the Saturday People, then the Sunday People' ...we are all People of The Book to them. The name of that book is the Old (or if you are Jewish) Original Testament.
From what I've seen, Chemist_Geek's responses are more along the lines of taking issue with opinions of the "all Muslims are like that" variety. If that causes "hostile reactions," then I submit that the problem is more likely with those who are saying stupid things, than with the people who point those things out.

It's not CG's taking issue with some of the more negative posts about islam; it is the manner in which he does so; often combative and insulting and does nothing to ennoble the debate. So, naturally, some people will respond in kind. I've been guilty of that myself when goaded and I do try not to get personal in these debates.
Also, he will not answer even politely phrased questions if they don't seem to fit his world view.
Just my observations; I'm a newbie so I don't pretend any expertise here.
The crux of the matter, in my opinion, is that Jews and Christians have always been able to talk about their differences in beliefs without rancor, and both support the other.
With Islam there is no discussion. It's their way or death.
An interesting side-note:
I lived in Singapore for three years. I knew many Buddhists so I became interested in their belief system.
A lot of hotels there have the Book of Buddha and a Bible in the rooms. While I was staying in the Shagria Lai Hotel I studied the Book of Buddha and was surprised to learn that Buddha's teachings are not that much different from those of Jesus Christ. Love is the guiding theme.
I'm sure Islam hates them with almost the same fervor as Christians and Jews.
You may be newer than some of us, but you analyzed that situation perfectly.

You put that perfectly, TC. Jews and Christians have been able to co-exist very well in America in the past 50 years; and we must stick together in the days to come.
What EXACTLY do you all propose?
I propose we all: Agree to disagree but remain polite. Expect others to reciprocate in kind. Understand that people, no matter where they are from or what they may believe, most want the same: Food, shelter and friendship...I propose we all remain thankful that the Constitutions of the United States and Australia protect our freedoms...and the Law will deal with those who break the law.
I propose we all: Hope and pray that democracy in Iraq is the beginning of the New Century we all wished for, and that other countries in the region embrace it, setting their peoples free.
I propose these things as an Aussie who is with you all in spirit. But if an islamic fanatic comes along and tries to tell me that mohammad was sinless and divine, and the only law on earth should be sharia, I propose to reserve the right to tell him what I think. OK?
