WASHINGTON - Rep. Bobby Jindal is planning to demonstrate solidarity with Iraqi voters by dipping a finger in purple ink before President Bush (news - web sites)'s State of the Union speech Wednesday.
Bush is delivering his speech to a joint session of Congress and a nationwide television audience three days after Iraq (news - web sites)'s first free national elections in decades.
Iraqis who participated in Sunday's elections had a finger stained with purple ink to prove they had voted.
In a letter to be circulated Wednesday among fellow lawmakers, Jindal, R-La., said he would have ink available for anyone attending the speech who wanted to make a gesture of support for Iraqis and "people throughout the world who seek freedom."
Man, the GOP ought to do that for the Speech! Can you picture every Republican holding up a purple finger, and the sourpuss Dems scowling?
Excellent idea...as long as Ted (*hic*) Kennedy doesn't try to drink it thinking it's wine.
Let Teddy drink it anyway . . .
This is great! I hope all the GOP Reps & Senators do this. It'd be a great message of solidarity to the Iraqis while showing them which Americans are on their side and which are on the side of the terrorists, and it'd be a great F-U to the Demonrat crapweasels across the aisle.
He don't drink no stinking wine. Who do you think he is? John FrancyPants Kerry? He lost himself in the Scotch bottle years ago.
He's claiming a medal he has not earned. That purple finger, and photos of it, and prints of it saved, ought to be something special for those who really voted in Iraq.
I may be in the minority on this in here, but I think this is very silly. I hope no one does that silly stunt. It looks showy and disrespects the Iraqis in my opinion. Just my opinion, though.
They could use the middle finger also.
Only for a collective salute to those who still push the negativity, starting with the 15 anti-Condi Senators!
Agreed. This Rep is a freshman (president of their class, if I recall), so he may be given some grace for this overreach.
A better idea would be a national election standard that requires indelibly marking the finger or hand, and finger printing, of every voter to prevent multiple visits to the booth. We all know which of the two major parties would be most affected. This may seem Orwellian, but election fraud needs at long last to be stopped.
Bobby Jindal is of Middle Eastern decent. He ran for governor of our state but lost, I believe, because of his decent. But he took a shot at Congress and won. He is a very smart and fine man and I take pride in knowing that I helped put him in Congress. We should allow him to seize the moment and show his solidarity.
I hope EVERY Republican has a purple finger at the SOTU tonight. What a contrast to the Democrat's red eyes and hairy palms.
LOL if they use the middle finger I hope they point it to the Dems!
Sorry, for spelling it's descent. Oops.
Bobby has such zeal and exuberance in his new job as Congressman. It is wonderful to behold. He is sending out email newsletters sharing what he is doing each week to his constituents. He is going to do great things.
Purple freedom ink for everyone!!! Pass it around.
