According to official historical figures obtained by Reuters the unadjusted figure of 5.037 million would put the country's unemployment at the highest level since 1933, when Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party came to power.
"We are getting towards the dimensions seen at the beginning of Hitler's regime," said Dieter Wermuth, an economist at United Financial of Japan.
"Germany is increasingly getting a lower class, which it has not had for many decades, a growing class of people who do not expect to work ever. And that is politically very dangerous."

When Hitler took power in 1933 he found Germany in tatters. The statement above is hidden praise of Nazism and Hitler. In other words, "it was better under Hitler than it is today"
Sickening.

As I recall they came pretty close to knocking Schroeder out in the last election and in desperation he used Bush bashing to save his job. Hopefully this time that tactic won't work.

I am of part german descent. I have a neighbor both are full blooded german. They have a superiority complex. They are too good to talk to anyone.
The man has been unemployed for years. The wife works, and I cannot for the life of me understand why they feel they are so perfect.
Their kid two years ago failed out of the university he was attending. LOL, just weird individuals. Glad they are not right next door.

This is cross section of German society, minus immigrants and ultra rich.

The decline in the German workforce has gathered momentum for forty years and can be dated from the arrival of Turkish guest workers who now number in the hundreds of thousands.

I am 50% German, but several generations removed from the 'Old Country', so I really have no affinity or allegiance to that heritage. They act as if they are superior, but I beleive deep-down it is the exact opposite. Their lack of manners is appalling. They barge into buffet lines, refuse to make way for anyone on crowded walkways, and if you are in their way, they just smash into you, no apologies. Ugly behavior that most Americans would not accept from a child.

By the way, there were many Canadians in the DR, I noticed no rude or caustic behavior on their part at all. In fact, you could not distiguish them from Americans. Do Canadians walk around half naked when they vacation? I don't have a problem with it, it just seems kind of weird. Out of the two hundred topless women we observed, there were less than 10 who actually looked 'attractive' without their tops on. Same goes for the men in Speedos.

"???- Chancellor Schroeder IS employed. It is not to HIM it is happening"
True.
But the guy just loves power.
And the last time he barely managed to win re-election, mainly by attacking President Bush.
If unemployment continues to go in that direction, I wouldn't bet too much on Schroeder winning again.
He could very well end up joining all the jobless Germans he's been creating with his socialist policies.

Yep.

"If they start blaming Jews for their problems, look out."
Same thought occurred to me too.
Thing is, there are few fewer Jews left to blame now, after Hitler had finished his dastardly killing business.
So they are probably going to find someone else to blame this time.

"I wonder if the ones who do not expect to have to work are from the old East Germany?"
Most of them are.
In fact unemployment in the old East Germany is far higher than in the old West Germany.
To: KwasiOwusu
The solution to the German unemployment is to bring in unlimited numbers of Turks to work at sub minimum wage and at the same time to outsource to India all high paying jobs possible.

"And the response from the E.U. will be to scold and sanction Germany! Frankly, I love to see Europe eat its own"
Well the EU let Germany AND France get away with spending far outside the limits stipulated by the EU.
Plus Airbus continues to get massive government subsidies, against all WTO treaties, with the EU cheering them on.
Those 2 countries (Germany and France) think they own the EU, and they sure act like they do.

This same neighbor I was speaking of, has worked in the entertainment industry. He has worked on well known movies. He now refuses to work at an onsite location. He is antisocial, and behaves poorly everywhere. I believe he thinks he is too intelligent to have to put up with the average person (whatever his definition is of that). It has cost his family dearly. They are financially struggling and he will only accept jobs that he can do out of his garage. If his wife loses loan position job at the financial institution, they will lose everything. He is that obstinate.
To: Trust but Verify
Lol. That may be true, but many would say the same thing about the Americans (sans the speedos of course!).
