Polls. Like exit polls. A poll will say what the poll taker want's it to say.

Is there a poll on illegal immigration?

i did a poll of my house and found that 100% of those polled responded that immigration was extremely important.

I can't understand what the big deal is about 3 million people entering our country illegally every year? So what if it's war time. So what if this adds the equivalent of 3 major cities a year of illegal aliens?
Don't they buy stuff from McDonald's and Walmart? Good for business, good for us!
Go Bush

You artfully sniped the article to create a misimpression. For example you left out the second paragraph:
"Although the perceived importance of immigration has increased, it remains near the bottom of a list of issues in terms of the priority the president and Congress should give it, according to the public. "
Your deletion of all of the parts not supportive of your position is very significant because the full article will not be available after today to non subscribers.

"The percentage of Americans who support a decreased level of immigration into the country was lower in January 2001, at 45%. The sentiment jumped to 58% in January 2002, due undoubtedly to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against New York City and Washington, D.C. In 2003, 55% said the immigration level should be lowered, and last year, 49% felt that way. In short, sentiment that immigration should be decreased remains slightly higher now than it was before 9/11.

I have to admit that I went to the page on the Gallup site, and have no idea what this poll is really about. The word
illegal does not appear a single time on the entire page. So if they're just asking about immigration in general, that's a totally separate issue from
illegal immigration.
Seriously, are they trying to be deliberately ambiguous in the questions they asked?

"Although the perceived importance of immigration has increased, it remains near the bottom of a list of issues in terms of the priority the president and Congress should give it, according to the public. "All the more reason the president deserves criticism for his dogged pursuit of a guest worker program, and at the risk of fracturing the party.

I believe if this country was relieved of the Illegal immigrants, the legal immigrants would not be such a problem for us.

I wonder how the question was framed, do you know?
It seems that it focused on immigration as a whole, and not illegal immigration.
Illegal immigration effects other areas, like terrorism, social security, taxes, education, etc.
