WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Board of Directors of The Latino Coalition (TLC) today urged Senate leaders to quickly and decisively confirm Judge Alberto Gonzales as the next U.S. Attorney General.
"The time for partisan posturing is over. We need a quick and decisive vote to confirm the nomination of Judge Alberto Gonzales as the next U.S. Attorney General," said TLC President Robert Deposada. "The Judge has unquestionable ethical standards, unique qualifications, and a remarkable and proud record of public service. He also will bring a unique perspective and human experience understood only by those whose families have migrated to a foreign land with little resources and not knowing the language. So why are Democratic leaders dragging their feet and trying to hold back this excellent nominee? There's only one answer: partisan politics. This attitude cost Democrats dearly in the last election, and unless they wake up, it can only get worse."
Judge Gonzales has been endorsed by every major Latino organization in this country, including the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), National Hispanic Bar Association, The Latino Coalition, National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO), National Council of La Raza (NCLR), League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC), National Association of Hispanic Publishers, National Association of Hispanic Firefighters, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Business Roundtable, MANA, A National Latina Organization, and the New American Alliance, among others.
Aside from the political posturing, another sad chapter in this nomination is the refusal of the highly partisan and ineffective Congressional Hispanic Caucus to join every major national Hispanic organization and endorse the Gonzales nomination. "Their partisan egos have been bruised because he did not meet with them this year, and once again they put partisan politics over the community they are supposed to represent," Deposada added. "On this one, they truly stand alone, and that's because Hispanic leaders are tired of the old partisan games. They need to wake up and start putting the interest of the community over their selfish partisan needs. Their party bosses cannot be more important than their community."
The Latino Coalition is a non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, D.C. TLC was established to address policy issues that directly affect the well-being of Hispanics in the United States. TLC's agenda is to develop and promote policies that will foster economic equivalency and enhance overall business, economic, and social development of Hispanics. Do these "Latino Leaders" have a consituency? I've lived and worked in heavily Hispanic environments, but have yet to met anybody who cares what these "leaders" have to say.
Don't know, but who would've thought we would see Julian Bond jumping to the defense of Condoleeza Rice.
The Dems better watch out, with Rice they've angered some blacks, and now they're trying to alienate the Latinos.
Going to be a great 2006 election, IMHO.
Anyone at all who takes that drunk piece of garbage seriously on issues other than the best scotch to buy are ALREADY crazed leftists. I wonder why they continue to let him go out there and be the face of the democrat party. Oh, that's right, he's royalty.
Gonzales is anti Second Amendment--wants the AWB re-enacted, for one thing. For this reason, I hope he is not appointed.

And this is newsworthy because?
J.D. Hayworth for President!!
Is this an open-borders group? Is Gonzales an open borders guy?
It's time for Republicans to make inroads into the traditional Democratic base, such as union members and minorities.
Hispanics are up for grabs, and President Bush saw it coming a long time ago.
Newsflash...so does W.
Actually, the information I have seen re President Bush and the AWB is that he said he would sign it if it crossed his desk. There are those who say that he knew it wouldn't cross his desk.
Who knows?
Of course.
"Is Gonzales an open borders guy?"
I thought I read an article stating that Gonzales was associated with LaRaza. If that's true then, yes he's an open borders guy.
I was at a quinceneira (celebration of a young woman's fifteenth birthday) last week and while the woman oohed and aahed the men drank tequila and talked politics. In this border region politics is local, and generally based on years of citizenship. The fluidity of thinking is amazing. The leaders are generally Democrat by birth, but one is neither Republican nor Democrat; rather, politics (both local, state and national,) is based on "what have you done for me lately?"
