But by courting conservative blacks in battleground states reaching out through programs such as the president's faith-based initiative GOP organizers believe they made the difference that secured Bush's victory in 2004. In Ohio, for instance, a concerted effort increased black support for Bush from 9% in 2000 to 16% in 2004, providing a cushion that allowed the president to win the pivotal state outright on election night. The Black Contract With America will be unveiled by Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr., a registered Democrat from suburban Washington who backed Bush in 2004 after voting against him four years earlier. He was drawn, he said, to the GOP's social conservatism that he thought reflected the true values of black churches.

He's extremely handsome, well-mannered, has an appealing personality, very smart, and can speak convincingly. Sounds familiar.

What this is about is the fact that no matter how loyal American blacks are to the Democrats, blacks still won't even get nominated, much less approved, for senior Democrat Party positions. I would really like to know how Boxer and Byrds behavior over Condi is being received.

Hey, come on, I'm Black, but my Lutheran church is predominately white. We need to be recognized there too.
You're not being excluded. It's just that everyone knows that a Black person that attendants a predominately white church is already a Republican. Just kidding...

We all know what party the Plantation Owners Association of Mississippi belongs to.

Especially in a tight knit community like that of the African Americans. The real challenge will be in the Southern states where The Man still holds his thumb on the sharecropper. In those states, the 'Rat's lies are still holding many blacks down. We must continue to show how bald faced and outright the Lie really is. Do you want a fish, or do you want a fishing pole? The 'Rat's will give you the fish, but make you pay dearly for a fishing pole. The Republicans have loads of fishing poles to give away.

You are forgetting something. The generational change. The civil-rights generation is not young anymore. I'll bet a lot of younger blacks see the kooks and wackos in the democratic party just like anyone else.
They just need to vote. Most dont.

"I catch enough sh*t from other blacks (including my own damn family) who want to pigeon-hole me and give me guff."Taking flack from other blacks is easily understood.
Based upon which specific issues do your family members disagree with you?
And what in their mind are the biggest "injustices" as far as they're concerned?

And Sing!!
You aren't kidding! Those going for the first time might be a bit surprised to see members of the congregation randomly stand up and start songs.

I support this effort, but has to be going on NOW - not every two years.

I am not forgetting this fact. Its the liberal whites in power who continue to force the black organizations and prominent blacks in public to support the liberals and democrats. Blacks, to date, have not shown (based on voting percentage) any change in their voting, in fact some statisticians are claiming that they are voting more solidly for liberals than previous. I see nothing which indicates blacks becoming more open minded and less dependent on liberals, but that does not mean that I would not like to see that change. Such change must come from within the black community - they have to value honest education (not whats fed to them from the govt. schools) and expect their children to succeed in education, hip-hop culture should be despised, more emphasis on a father in the home, less dependence on receiving handouts or promotions based solely on race, etc.... As Cosby is saying blacks need to quit blaming others and start to put the blame on themselves. Good advice for all liberals.

There is one other thing to think of. It's the new media/information revolution. It will eventually plume into historically ethnic areas with alternate ideas. Then again, older folks are going to avail themselves less to it than younger, mobile folks.
Remember, most of Bush and the GOP elections last year were under the radar of the legacy media and this tactic was very successful.
