Welcome to the Internet Smile Factor.

Margaret Spellings was sworn in as the new Education Secretary.

President Bush welcomed the Detroit Pistons, NBA champions, in a ceremony at the White House today.

Bush named Dr. Jack Crouch II to be Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor. Dr. Crouch is U.S. Ambassador to Romania.

The president will give his State of the Union Address on Wednesday, February 2.

Joining Senators Kennedy and Kerry in the Political Fossil Corner, Gorbachev called the Iraq elections fake, and a profanation. Senator James McDermottt, D-WA ("Baghdad Jim") emitted similar frantic wailings.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island.

RE: Michael Jackson. . . I hope he ends up in a jail cell with Kobe Bryant and Bill Clinton. I think he's a complete and utter slimeball and it's a waste of taxpayer money to go thru the sham a trial will be.

They are playing up to who they believe are Reagan democrats, they're just never going to learn. The more inane and disrespectful comments they make so much the better. Take heart. They are digging their own grave. :) It just makes them look small and petty.

Liz is very accomplished, has been in government service for awhile, and has established quite a fine reputation for herself. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see her run for public office. This article was written before she had her third child, an adorable son. Here's excerpts from a June 2003 WashTimes article:

Liz Cheney gains stature in policy

By Damien McElroy
LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH

AMMAN, Jordan — On the shimmering shores of the Dead Sea, Liz Cheney, daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, emerged yesterday as the new rising star in the Middle East.

She has been armed with a budget of more than $100 million and charged with sparking an Arab renaissance to undermine the influence of extremists and to encourage democracy and equality for women.

Mrs. Cheney, 36, a comparatively junior member of the State Department, was singled out as the official to get to know over canapes and fruit juice by many of the 2,000 delegates attending the World Economic Forum in Jordan.

The prospect of meeting the woman tipped as the rising star in the Bush administration was one of the main attractions for the besuited and caftan-wearing delegates.

Mrs. Cheney is officially the deputy assistant secretary of state for the Near East. She was, at first, reluctant to take the job.

Now, she is being taken on her own merits. Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, who is also in Jordan, has been a cheerleader for Mrs. Cheney's program that promotes literacy and democratic reform, describing it as a "firm foundation of hope."

(snip)

She was graduated from the University of Chicago law school, then went from working on small-business development for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Budapest to the World Bank's Washington office. She has two children, and her husband is also a career bureaucrat.

Mrs. Cheney emphasizes the role of women to try to neutralize the influence of extremist groups and mullahs who exploit frustration and poverty. She aims to teach women their legal rights and help them run for office.

Hi Emily!

I'm calmed down, at least a little. I know you're right; most Dems, at least the fairly competent ones, will see them as extreme and nuts.

Hope you're doing well-

Can I get an amen on that one! AMEN!
I heard Rush today and thought the same thing. How sickening is it when a Senator of the United States of America wishes his own country will fail? Patriotism? I don't think so.

Thanks for the Cheney photos.

I was just thinking, Liz Cheney would be a wonderful candidate somewhere for something. She's attractive, intelligent, articulate... and has great parents.

I hate to tell you but his speech at the DNC was on the British Satellite channels and BBC Parliament Channel showed C-Span for that week as well.

Oh my God ... he's a constant on local TV here in Chicago .. to a nauseating degree .. like he walks on water. I should've known the Rats were trying to make his face known overseas. They're definitely grooming him for other things .... because, even though he wants women to be able kill babies, he's just SO wonderful and such a great speaker.

It's appalling to see the newscasters and so-called political journalists here shamelessly fawning over him here.

I always have to go back and see what the heck you're talkin' abut. I guess I look at what's in the clothes more than I do the clothes.

At the risk of being really picky, picky, picky I have to say that the two pictures of Secretary Spellings in Post No. 8, look just like Martha Stewart.

He does love meeting sports figures and no matter how tall they are he doesn't look small...and he always knows how to hold the ball! (unlike Lurch who always looked like a sissy or a poseur in a sports situation)

I was thinking about Ann Frank when Barbara Boxer gave her hysterical rant about how sickened and horrified she was about the Abu Garhaib photos. I wondered if she had ever visited the Holocaust museum or read Ann Frank's diary.
