Hillary Clinton faints during speech

CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton fainted during a lunchtime speech Monday in Buffalo, New York, but revived and continued her scheduled appearances, aides said.

"Indeed, our senator fainted -- hadn't felt well this morning and had a full day," Clinton chief of staff Tamera Luzzato said in an e-mail.

The senator's press secretary, Philippe Reines, said Clinton was suffering from a stomach virus during her talk.

"She felt weak, needed to sit down and then fainted briefly," Reines said. "She received immediate medical attention at the site and is now proceeding with her schedule as planned."

Clinton, 57, was giving a speech for a Democratic group of 150 people at the Saturn Club in Buffalo, said Vincent Tracy, the club's general manager.

Colleen DiPirro, head of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, said Clinton told the crowd that she had a stomach virus or food poisoning.

She began speaking, asked for a glass of water, continued with her remarks and then asked to sit down, DiPirro said.

Clinton then left the stage for a few minutes, returned to try to finish her speech and passed out for about 30 seconds, DiPirro said.

Secret Service agents surrounded the senator, she said.

Clinton did not go to a hospital, and no ambulance was called, sources said.

There were no cameras in the room when Clinton fainted, a club spokesman said.

The junior senator from New York is staying in the Buffalo area and plans to carry out her scheduled appearances, Luzzato said.

"Based on what we know, all is well and these things happen," she said.

The former first lady appeared about an hour later at Canisius College, a Jesuit school in Buffalo, where she delivered a speech on health care, a college spokesman said.

For a brief moment, Satan, deep in the darkest bowels of Hell, felt an involuntary shudder, thinking She was on her way.

Now will we suddenly hear the litany of questions about 'Senator Clinton's health', and whether or not she is up to the demands of a presidential campaign, let alone the stress and strain of the Presidency?!?

ONLY if it were 'Senator Hillary Clinton, *R* - NY'.

What a scammer - she couldn't stand any good press about Iraq and upstaged the news with her own little stunt.

Perhaps she came to the conclusion after Sunday's elections in Iraq that she doesn't stand a chance in 2008? :)

That's a switch - usually it's the reporters fainting in front of Hillary rather than the other way around.....

Could there be a little too much booze? Something has to aid her hypocrisy.

My thoughts exactly. The thought of massive success on Iraq's part was too much for Little Hil.

I understand that the fainting spell occured shortly after Sir Edmond Hillay Clinton said "Faith-based Initiative"

She shouldn't spend late evenings romancing Nancy Pelosi.

"She felt weak, needed to sit down and then fainted briefly,"

Hardly ehat I would term a "collapse". She got a little dizzy, that's all.

The Grim Reaper making stealth hit and runs on her. He's gonna have to claim her when her back is to him. Just a practice run. No need to worry.

I fully expect the New York Times to stay on top of this story in the run up to the 2006 New York Senatorial election. Yeah, right.
