Sen. Clinton Faints, Later Gives Speech
By CAROLYN THOMPSONBUFFALO, N.Y. - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton fainted Monday after complaining of a stomach virus before a scheduled speech on Social Security. She received medical attention at the scene and then went on to give another speech at a Catholic college Monday afternoon.
"It wasn't as dramatic as it sounds," Clinton said after the 30-minute speech.
Clinton aides said doctors believed she had a stomach virus. They said she felt weak at the private club where she was to speak, needed to sit down, and then fainted briefly.
Clinton, 57, was smiling when she walked out of the club, the general manager said.
"I saw her walk out the door by herself, she smiled and said `thank you'," said Saturn Club general manager Vincent Tracy.
Later Monday, she delivered a speech about health care at Canisius College. She was introduced by former U.S. Rep. John LaFalce, who told the crowd that Clinton went against doctor's advice because she was committed to talking about health care.
Clinton was to return to Washington after the speech, the last event on her public schedule.
In September, Clinton's 58-year-old husband underwent quadruple bypass surgery.
During an earlier editorial board meeting Monday at The Buffalo News, Clinton complained about suffering from a flu-like bug that affected several of her staff members during a weekend retreat in Westchester County, where she lives.
The former first lady has said she plans to run for re-election in 2006.
Is root canal worse than a stomach virus? I've had the virus....but not root canal.
OMG - ROFLMBO - PLEEEEEEASE don't remind me of Janet Reno's fainting. I'll NEVER forget those size 14 shoes pointing up to the sky. heheheheheheheheheheheheh!! I'm terrible.
She get some water splashed on her?
Hi pinz!!!
If she's that sick, she should've stayed home instead of being out and about and infecting people. Nice consideration for your fellow man there, Hillie. NOT.
Apparently not--she didn't melt, and nobody left with her broomstick.
Did anyone yell Timber?Hope she didn't break anything.

Political consultant found dead in apartment

A longtime political consultant who worked on many Democratic campaigns in New York and elsewhere was found dead Thursday night in his Manhattan apartment, an apparent suicide, police said Friday.
The body of Phil Friedman, 50, was discovered in his Jane Street residence in Greenwich Village by a building superintendent, police said.
Police said pills were found and there was a note left on a desk beside the bed. Friends said Friedman had been struggling with depression for many years.
Friedman was associated in the 1970s with the firm of the well-known consultant David Garth, former colleagues said. John LoCicero, a friend and ally of former Mayor Ed Koch, recalled working with Friedman in Koch's successful 1977 campaign and considered him "brilliant."
"Over the years we'd see each other from time to time. He was just a fun kind of guy," LoCicero said.
Later, Friedman was deeply involved in the unsuccessful campaigns of City Council President Andrew Stein for mayor and John Dyson for U.S. Senate.
Friedman was involved in other Senate campaigns out of state. On Friday, news of his death shocked staffers in the office of Sen. Mark Dayton (D-Minn.), in whose campaign he most recently was involved.
He also assisted in the campaign of Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, ex-colleagues said, and was friendly with people in Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's circle.
No funeral information was available, police said.Copyright © 2005, Newsday, Inc.
