Iran would make any aggressor pay dearly: armed forces commander
TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (MNA) -- The commander of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Salimi, said here on Sunday that Iran will sound the defense as soon as the enemy starts to beat the drums of war.
The Iranian Armed Forces regard all foreign threats against the country as serious and are ready to respond to them, he told the Mehr News Agency.
We regard any threat as serious, although it might not be new or likely to be materialized. They have been threatening the Islamic Republic for a long time now, he said, referring to the U.S. threats to launch a military attack against Iran.
Military forces have nothing to do with diplomatic issues and negotiations but should only strive to increase their preparedness every day, Salimi added.
He went on to say that any aggressor who tries to carry out the threat of attacking Iran would have to pay dearly and would also find it a difficult task due to the current preparedness of the Iranian Army.
Our military forces are in complete preparedness and I dont think any outside force would consider attacking our territory. We do not seek a war under any circumstances and have always refrained from such actions, but we will continue trying to maintain independence, peace, and stability in the region.

They haven't been bombed like Iraq for 13 yrs and their military might is fresh. Moreover, the Iranian people will unite to defend their land no matter who the ruler is.

According to the gooya.com web site and DW.de, around 10 political prisoners have started a hunger strike since Jan 14th, 2005 to demand a free referundum in Iran.
The " Iran Freedom of Expression Frontiers " organization located in Europe expressed its concerns over the situation of the above said prisoners in a letter to the UN Secreatary General, Kofi Anan.

That certainly wasn't in evidence during their war with Iraq.

Hmmm... you might need to read some stories on "How Iranian Defended Their Land Against Iraqi Invaders in 1980s"

I have. The two sides were stalemated by their mutual ineptitude.
