It's just so gratifying to see this day finally come! A day that vindicates everything Gunny Sgt. Poppaditch and his buddies have sacrificed for. A day that will elevate them in this country's history books, placing them in the hallowed ether of Yorktown, Montezuma, Omaha Beach, Bull Run, San Juan Hill, Midway and Iwo Jima. Their deeds will be remembered honorably, thanks to today.

Given the nature of this war, it's unlikely they'll ever have a ticker tape parade or receive the kind of national recognition they deserve. I suspect they'll be rewarded with a turnaround in the opinion polls after today. They deserve infinitely more.

All that in spite of the bitter opposition to their mission from the democratic party. What cowards the Iraqis have shown them to be!

Please let me know when you do that. I am a lurker there, not registered.

I would be honored to see you let them have it with both barrels.

My understanding is that 14-million Iraqis registered to vote. If we assume 25-million iraqis, that's a little less than 60-percent. That's according to CNN scroll. However, I don't know how many Iraqis are 18+, so it's obvously larger than 60%.

Ask him what's his point?
Everybody that wanted to vote is voting.
Registration is a non-issue at this point.

Islam in its truest form and democracy do not mix.

I'm not sure what you mean by "truest" form, but 72% of Iraq showed today that Democracy can work in a Muslim society, as it has worked in Muslim Turkey for decades now.

Jesus: Render unto Ceaser...

Muhammad: Kill the infidels, (but let me keep the pretty Jew girl as a slave)

Can't get any more succinct than that.

Demographically, Iraq is a young country. People have large families, and at least for the last few decades, haven't lived too long.

60% could be darn near everyone over 18.

Interesting how DUmmies think it's the death of the US because we stood up for something they're always crowing about--intervention in foreign lands in order to prevent atrocities, torture and dictatorship. Were W a democrat these EXACT SAME DUMMIES would be posting "WHOOOO!!!! I LOVE MY COUNTRY!!" (Just as some FReepers would be saying we shouldn't be interventionist.)

While Clinton acted in Bosnia in his flailing around to create SOME kind of legacy (I don't know if I buy the "to distract from Lewinsky" angle, as I don't think one just orders up an invasion on a moment's notice), Bush has taken a huge risk in so many ways in order to stabilize the most volatile section of the planet, which would directly impact US. He acted in the very best tradition of enlightened self-interest--his primary goal was to help the U.S., but driving a stake of democracy into the heart of Islamofascism was the chosen method. For that he will be remembered as a great president.

Al Gore and John Kerry are two more in the Carter-Clinton mode of weak-willed democrats who are too timid to risk greatness.

I share John Kerry's view on the Iraqi elections. What's the big deal? The real story is the violence! SCARY!!! It just isn't as big a success as the Bush people would like to claim, for obvious reasons. (Yeah, he actually said that last part.)

By the way...I also share a tanning bed with the junior Senator from Massachusetts.

thanks for the reply, and thank you for protesting in 2000, those early protests were quite an eye-opener for the country. We had all just assumed that political activism had become the sole weapon of the far left.... when conservatives started protesting loudly during the attempted Demo Coup of 2000.

You and your buddies inspired me to attend street protests here in L.A., and it felt incredible to be with those fine people waving flags and signs.

You early protesters brought about a profound change in American life, and history will reward you with honor.
