Allegra, how much longer are you in Iraq? Just curious. I've been here more than a year and my obligation was for a year. So I can leave whenever I want now; it's open-ended.
I haven't decided yet when to go...I'm glad I came back, though, just to be able to experience a day like today!

The Times hates this election worse than school vouchers the West side stadium and George Bush combined. They are probably holding out hope for a last minute dirty bomb.

The sacrifices and character of US troops will have positive repercussions for years.
In cold Assisi in December 1992, two older Italian couples on the street asked me a question, thinking I was Italian; when they realized I was American (speaking very little Italian), they insisted on taking me to a cafe and buying me a coffee. The wife of one translated for her husband, who started crying; "When my family was hungry in 1945 American soldiers shared their own food with us."

They'll probably have an editorial tomorrow attacking the terrorists for not doing enough.

Morning Allegra. How are things over there now? It's looking pretty happy from this end.

And you and all our brave troops are a major reason for that joy. GOD BLESS THE BRAVE IRAQIS WHO VOTED AND ALL OF YOU WHO HELPED MAKE IT POSSIBLE!! Thank ALL of you for your kind words and well wishes.
I'm not a troop, though. I'm just a contractor hanging around working in support of the troops. They're out there doing the hard stuff and I just think they're great!

Actually, the NY Times is being surprisingly upbeat.
Headline:
"Amid Attacks, a Party Atmosphere on Baghdad's Closed Streets"
Who'd a thunk it?

I understand that Chris Matthews was supposed to air a 6pm special today on the Iraqi election, but has had to postpone it because all his scheduled guests and his schtick was set up to rub the bad news in Bush's face........

To: JesseJane

Morning Allegra. How are things over there now? It's looking pretty happy from this end. After a rather noisy day (mortars, firefights, etc.) things have gotten very calm. And I believe there's a lot of happiness out there.
The terrorists suffered a big defeat today.
I guess that means it was a bad day for our own liberals, too. ;-)

Fox News Alert: Ted Kennedy is still a big fat idiot.
Someone said to me the other day that Kennedy, Boxer, and Kerry were going to Iraq to try out for suicide bombers! I really had to laugh at that after all the negative crap they spewed about Iraq and our military. LOL
