Regarding gas masks...not all gases are equal. Some will get through a mask (CN) and make you puke. CS is pretty amenable to a gas mask. Sarin and VX go right through your skin. Cyanide requires the right stuff in the canister or is goes right through. Frankly, I don't think the masks and training offered to the average cop are going to be adequate. Especially not if a mix of gases is selected. The most valuable data point is the recognition that some kind of chemical attack is imminently expected.
