The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

John Holland checks out as the owner of a horse named Whisper and some kind of a horse activist. He isn't a vet and hasn't apparently sought the normal line of investigation/notification with state and county agricultural labs. I doubt this is a "test run" of any kind. When the big guns in commercial agricultural/veterinary medicine raise a red flag, it will be worthy of further consideration.

Hispanics who are here legally have no more use for the illegals than do the rest of us.

The ones here legally are as deprived of federal and state government benefits that illegals freely get as are the rest of us. Being here illegally is actually more of an incentive than taking the steps to become a citizen. Why would they knowingly disqualify themselves from free government programs when they know they would lose eligibility if they became citizens?

Other than in border states and a couple of northern states fed up with subsidizing illegals, most politicians are weak and spineless. They're afraid of groups that will inundate them with calls,letters and bad press. If any single issue warranted a special hearing and immediate action, this is it, but as another TMer indicated recently, it is just a big yawn and no one in control seems to care. Hate to say it, but the only way it's going to get attention is when the next attack is shown to be sourced from open borders. The complacency we're getting now shows us to be expendable.

DEARBORN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CONSPIRACY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO HIZBALLAH


Mahmoud Youssef Kourani (4/22/71) formerly of Dearborn, Michigan and Yater, Lebanon pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Provide Material Support to the Designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, Hizballah, Tuesday, March 1 in federal court in Detroit. The guilty plea was entered before United States District Judge Robert H. Cleland.

The information presented to the court at the time of the guilty plea showed that Mahmoud Kourani organized and hosted meetings at his Dearborn residence during Ramadan of 2002. During the meetings, a guest speaker from Lebanon solicited the participants to make donations to Hizballah. Pursuant to the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, effective October 8, 1997, the Secretary of State designated Hizballah as a foreign terrorist organization by finding that the organization is a foreign organization that engages in terrorist activity threatening the security of United States nationals or the national security of the United States. Hizballah, also known as "Party of God," also known as "Islamic Jihad," among other names, is a worldwide terrorist network which has conducted numerous high profile terrorist attacks in the name of Islamic fundamentalism. The money solicited by Kourani's conspiracy was intended to support Hizballah's "orphans of martyrs" program to benefit the families of those killed in Hizballah terrorist operations or by Hizballah's enemies.

In announcing the guilty plea, United States Attorney Craig S. Morford commended the work of the Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who conducted the investigation, and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, and Assistant United States Attorney Kenneth R. Chadwell who handled the prosecution.

"Combating terrorism is the number one priority of the Department of Justice, and this prosecution underscores our commitment to disrupt the funding of terrorist organizations," said United States Attorney Craig S. Morford. "Raising money for designated terrorist organizations, like Hizballah, is a serious crime which will be vigorously pursued in the Eastern District of Michigan."

Daniel D. Roberts, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, said "The FBI views counter-terrorism as its highest priority. We thank all the members of Detroit's Joint Terrorism Task Force for their assistance in the successful outcome of this investigation. This investigation is further evidence of the FBI's commitment to combat terrorism nationwide, including the Detroit area."

A copy of the superseding information is attached. Sentencing is scheduled for June 14, 2005. Kourani faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine, to be followed by deportation to Lebanon.
