The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

Texas man charged in Detroit with smuggling money to Syria

DETROIT (AP) -- A Texas man who told authorities he was headed to Syria to try to collect a $25 million bounty on Osama bin Laden has been indicted on charges of attempting to smuggle more than $13,000, a Taser stun device, ammunition and radiation detectors.

The indictment against Matt Mihsen, 47, was handed down Tuesday, and he is scheduled to be arraigned March 8, the U.S. attorney's office in Detroit said.

At the time of his arrest, Mihsen told agents that he was going to Syria in hopes of claiming the reward -- offered by the U.S. government -- for information leading to bin Laden's arrest and conviction, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Mihsen said he was a registered private investigator and wanted to conduct an independent probe into the illegal sale of uranium by extremists, authorities said.

According to the indictment, Mihsen, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Syria, left Dallas on Feb. 15 for Damascus.

Mihsen changed planes at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, but an outbound search of his checked luggage revealed that he was attempting to take a number of items with him to Syria including a Taser, ammunition, pepper spray, a bulletproof vest and three Geiger counters.

Mihsen told federal agents he planned to use the items as bait to lure possible uranium smugglers, authorities said.

He also denied carrying a large amount of cash before agents found he had $13,256 on him and in his luggage, the indictment says.

A message was left Wednesday for Mihsen's lawyer in the federal public defender's office.

Mihsen was indicted on charges of making false statements to federal investigators, trying to smuggle bulk cash out of the United States and attempting to export money and goods to Syria without a permit or authorization. The third charge, the most serious, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

LYON, France (AP) — The New York City police department is "very concerned" that al-Qaida is pursuing efforts to obtain chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, a senior official said Wednesday.

Michael Sheehan, the NYPD's counterterrorism commissioner, said officials know that Osama bin Laden's terror network is searching for biological weaponry and it appears to have sympathizers with medical and scientific backgrounds who could handle them.

"We are very concerned they are still trying to seek chemical, biological or radiological weapons," he told reporters on the sidelines of an Interpol conference on bioterrorism in Lyon, southeastern France.

"We don't have any information that at this time they have that capability, but we do know they're trying to get it," Sheehan said of al-Qaida, declining to provide specifics.

He said al-Qaida's operational ability appeared to have declined since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001 pushed them out of their bases and into hiding.

"However, we still know they are very much out there — and capable," Sheehan said. "We don't underestimate their ability to bounce back as a serious threat of terrorism."

The threat was not just al-Qaida, but could come from any terrorist organization "or some type of deranged person," Sheehan added.

His comments came a day after Interpol Secretary-General Ronald K. Noble warned the conference of al-Qaida's stated intent to use biological weaponry, noting the group has posted instructions for making such arms on the Internet.

More than 500 crime fighters, scientists and counterterrorism officials from 155 countries were on hand for the two-day conference, touted as the largest gathering of police in history.

Sheehan said that New York City was on the "cutting edge" of using technology for early detection against a potential biological terror attack.

Air detectors have been installed across the city, indoors and outdoors, to take air samples and they are checked everyday by scientists for pathogens, Sheehan said, noting that the project was still in the testing phase.

Post offices also are using new technology to search the mail for biological pathogens, such as anthrax, in the aftermath of the anthrax-by-mail attacks that terrorized the United States three years ago.

Interpol is based in the southeastern city of Lyon.

Interesting. They found that sketch connected to the terrorist in Madrid so we know they were targeting Grand Central. Last week there was a report about New Jersey Transit stepping up security with state troopers posted at some train stations in south Jersey. NJ Transit goes in to Penn Station so I'm sure that is a target as well.

So they have ATM video from January, and possibly make and model of car. Any reason why the photos and car info. are not being widely distributed in the hope that these murderers will be caught. Could it possibly be that they fit a certain description that would prove the Anti-Christian motive behind these horrific murders.

Also, there was a little incident from this past week with a derailed shuttle at Grand Central Station. Also the "transformer" fire that shut down the IIRC A & C subway lines. But that was supposedly done by a homeless person.

Man wanted on terrorism charges appears at extradition hearing

LONDON -- A British computer expert accused of running U.S.-based Web sites soliciting support for terrorism appeared in a London court Wednesday at the start of a two-day extradition hearing.

Babar Ahmad, 30, was indicted in Connecticut in October on charges of supporting terrorism, conspiring to kill Americans and laundering money. U.S. authorities are seeking to have him extradited to stand trial in the United States.

Tenn. School Bus Driver Shot to Death

CUMBERLAND CITY, Tenn. -- A school bus driver was shot to death as she drove her route Wednesday morning and a male student was taken into custody, authorities said. No students were hurt.

Law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Associated Press that the bus driver died.

At the time of the shooting, the bus was carrying up to 20 students, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, said Bill Austin, a supervisor for Stewart County schools.

The student taken into custody was identified only as a teenager.

The bus crashed into a utility pole at the driveway of the student's home and knocked out power in the rural neighborhood. A white sheet was draped across the front of the bus and door as authorities investigated the scene.

Mitchell Kern, a neighbor who graduated from high school last year, said the student who was taken into custody is 15 years old.

"He was a good kid," Kern said. "He listened to his parents; they loved him to death."

Stewart County school superintendent Phillip Wallace declined to identify the driver, other than to say she had worked for the schools for two years.

Cumberland City is about 50 miles northwest of Nashville.

Toxic Levels Of Ammonia Leak In Marion County

Hazmat teams were on the scene of an ammonia leak in Marion County on Wednesday morning.

The leak came from a valve located inside the old Certified Grocery on Baseline Road, just south of Ocala, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.

The ammonia leak has been stopped and is now under control.

The amount of ammonia released could have been deadly, according to the fire department.

About 20 people were evacuated, but no injuries were reported.

The leak was in a maintenance area of a complex owned by Associated Grocers of Florida, Inc. It's a commercial distribution site for groceries that are delivered to small, individually owned grocery stores.

The ammonia is used in the refrigeration for the cooling system.
