The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

Guys, i cant give a link or confirm... however my friend who is in the natl guard says there have been discussions of raising the alert level possibly at the end of the week. im not saying this is definite, however my friend is very credible. He has been a guardsman since after 9/11, but i stress this is ENTIRELY speculation. I personally think with the new zawarhiri audiotape, intercepted message(that was intercepted 2 months ago and we are just hearing about it NOW), new missle battery in DC... that this is a DEFINITE possibility

OTOH, it could be an indicator of a weakening of the OBL organization in it's ability to strike unilaterally inside our borders due to a lot of direct pressure being brought to bear on him in his hiding places by both Pakistan and US forces. Since OBL can't direct a strike he's outsourcing it to an AQ affiliate in Iraq. That's IMHO another gamble because Zarqawi himself may be on the dodge and in danger of being taken.

Another set of players also backed by the same set of state sponsors might handle the actual attack - - operatives *much* more professional and competent than anything UBL, Zawahiri, or Zarqawi could ever hope to achieve.

OBL - Zarqawi UPDATE
Reuters is reporting the recent communications between Usama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi indicated that bin Laden has encouraged Zarqawi and his group to attack American interests outside of Iraq. This is much more general than was reported yesterday. Further information is that the communications were intercepted about two months ago. This was at a time when Zarqawi was focused upon stopping/disrupting the Iraqi elections and may have reflected optimism by OBL that he would be successful and swing momentum back to the terrorists.

global terror organization apparently just gave an order to the
longtime head of its WMD network to launch an attack on the United
States and/or its global interests outside of Iraq.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has fairly recently asked his chief ally in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, to consider the territory of United States as a target for terrorist attacks, a U.S. counterterrorism official says.

"There has been communication between bin Laden and Zarqawi with bin Laden suggesting to Zarqawi the U.S. homeland as a target," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official said on Monday the communication was "a fairly recent development" and contained no specific threat to the United States. But the official declined to provide details for fear of compromising U.S. anti-terrorism efforts.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned state officials around the country that the government had received non-specific information about al Qaeda's plans to attack the United States.
