The Democrats always miss golden opportunities. Even ones handed to them.

The media has been much more negative about the Iraqi election than the Democrats. And they've been forced to admit that its not complete bedlam and chaos over there. If you want to look for bad news, its not very hard to find it. Writing about the bright side of the picture takes some work. Most of what you see on TV or read in the newspapers is the handiwork of journalists too lazy to get to know about a foreign culture in-depth.

Rivera: "An exciting day, an historic day here in Iraq. It is the dawn of freedom....You folks who live in the United States who are watching this, just be proud. Be proud of this. This is amazing. This was inconceivable, wasn't it, during the days of Saddam Hussein. Look how far this country has come. It will heal its wounds. The terrorists are going to lose."

Haven't cared much for Rivera since his famous "Willowbrook" piece that made him famous, but have to admit his words and enthusiasm, especially the last part got to me, ..really great stuff.

An Iraqi election worker (L) searches women before allowing them to enter a polling station in the country's second largest city of Basra, January 30, 2005. A suicide bomber blew himself up at another Baghdad polling centre on Sunday, killing one person and wounding 16. Foxnews just said that the AP is saying 27 have been killed.

Guess I should see what they are saying.

Polls close @ 5 PM-Baghdad.

Some might stay open later because they didn't open on time.

Iraqis wait to enter a polling station in Baghdad's Shiite enclave of Sadr City, Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. Iraqis turned out to vote Sunday in their country's first free election in a half-century as insurgents made good on threats of violence, launching at least three deadly suicide bombings and heavy mortar strikes at polling stations. Just hours after polls opened, 17 people were killed. (AP Photo/Karim Kadim)

Could possibly be someone in great fear of voting, who thinks if they totally cover themselves, the ones who threatened to kill them if they voted won't know their identity. Not saying it is...just a possibility.

Thank you... Granted our population is 10 fold or more, rendering a comparable average fairly low, additionally , we are not 'at war' in the classic sense, yet the USA has it's share of places as unhealthy to visit as Fallujah is/was...

The total number of murdered American citizens speaks for itself...

toodle do, off to bed now...

Foxnews just said that the AP is saying 27 have been killed.

Sure hate hearing the number is up to 27! What very brave people these Iraqis have shown themselves to be. Guess the Dems didn't realize how much many of them DO appreciate our help!

Horrendo sounds like an old fashion liberal before the 60's ruined them, talking about justice and fair play.

The polls are said to be closing at 14:00 p.m UTC.... which would make it 5:00 p.m. So its rather short. At least that's what I saw on a CNN blurb awhile back.
