DENTON - Officers were looking for a .22-caliber weapon they suspect was used to shoot at a portable toilet at a construction site, injuring a worker.

But after receiving permission to search a tan brick home near the site Wednesday, officers discovered a garage workbench converted into what appeared to be a weapons factory, according to Denton police arrest and search warrants released Friday.

Silencers were laid out in various stages of production, eight of them attached to firearms. Also found were homemade grenades, chemicals used to make explosives, a napalm explosive device, a sword, a Claymore-type explosive device, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, documents and police said.

Vernon Randall Todd, 51, was arrested at the home after he punched and kicked an officer, police reported. Todd remained in the Denton County Jail on Friday with bail set at $200,000. He could face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting and aggravated assault on a peace officer.

"Hernandez told investigators that Wednesday was the only day he was assigned to work at the home construction site."

Bets that this was an Illegal day worker picked up on some street corner and paid in cash?

after receiving permission to search a tan brick home

You would be surprised at the number of idiots who give the police permission to search their homes or vehicles thinking that saying "No" would be too suspicious.

Since the cops found a .22 casing in the driveway, it was just a matter of time before they got a search warrant.

They had probable cause.

And he could have used the time to get rid of the evidence. I still say it was a dumb move on the perp's part.

For once the police actually find an "arsenal," but the media won't use that word. They only use it in instances of guns not being manufactured...

I still say it was a dumb move on the perp's part.

The "dumb move" was in slugging the investigator.

But, one trait that most criminals consistently exhibit is stupidity.

It indicates that, unless your #6 was tongue-in-cheek, you're a bit whacked yourself.

This guy was actually shooting at people!

So Brainiac here opened fire in broad daylight on a construction site port-a-pottie right next to his home and then gave police officers permission to search his home?

The man is a danger to the community and to himself and should be locked up indefinitly. What a mental defective.

Nothing wrong with suppressors, grenades, swords, or anything else.

The problem was his behavior.

All of us have something to hide in today's world. The chemicals in you house could be construed as "terrorist" if they wanted to. Even the accusation will ruin your life.

Sorry Just because someone is shooting at aomeone does not necessarily mean he's "Wacked Off"!! He must have some degree of intelligence to build his own weapons and silencers!
