Need help, already iced in!
Posted on 01/29/2005 6:06:23 AM PST by ruiner
Hi! Well, I have a rwd car with summer tires and the fwd car is out of town. The small amount of sleet on the road has trapped me in the house. The weather guy said we'd be cool until noon, but who believes him anyway.
Well, I'm a little unprepared (I know, I know) so I need a ghetto way to deice a small patch on my back deck so I can let the dog out without breaking our necks.
I'm sure table salt works well, but how much should I use? I don't want to waste it, not quite sure why, and obviously want to make sure I use enough!
Thanks!

If you can get the door open, just push fido out. He'll know what to do. Later on you can open the door to let him in.
Or an upstairs window will work if you can't get the door open.

Start drinking. [hint]And then pee on the area you want melted.
No salt required (unless you're consuming margaritas).

Coffee grounds work extremely well. They will track in,but are a lot less damaging than rock salt.etc.
We save our (used)grounds until we have a small bucket full;then put it somewhere to dry.

After drinking, pee on the ice. (repeat as necessary). 60 half pints should be sufficient.

Don't sweat it. We had eleven inches of snow last Saturday in SE Wisconsin and survived.

A few buckets of hot water should do the trick. However not if it is colder than about 20. Then it would freeze too fast.
Table salt does not work well at all and would take five pounds or more. You need rock salt.

No kitty litter.
I made sure I was stocked before the storm hit, but the grocery store was out of rock salt.
I have a 30pack of miller, bottle of tequila, bottle of vodka, bottle of rum, red meat, 3 potatos, chips, and leftover chicken wings.
Snow or no snow, the Missus was going out of town this weekend and ruiner was gonna party! Err, if you call sitting around watching tv partying.

Don't use cat litter, especially "flushable".
Ever hear of tire chains? (Not sure they totally legal, but man do they work.)
