Mom Wants Pro-Homosexual Poster Out of Ariz. Elementary School

By Jim Brown
January 28, 2005

A Christian mom is expressing shock and outrage over the promotion of homosexuality taking place at her children's elementary school in northeastern Arizona.

At issue is a wall poster at Washington Elementary School in Winslow that includes information about the school's female art teacher and features a rainbow flag symbolizing homosexual pride. The poster urges acceptance of all people, regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Deborah Ewbank, who has a second-grade son and fourth-grade daughter at the school, recalls her reaction when she first saw the poster. "My mouth fell open," she says. "I was just blown away. In an elementary school, I didn't see a place for this type of word usage."

And the Arizona parent found the images on the wall display as disturbing as its verbal message. "As I looked, I noticed there were only pictures of women together on this poster," she says, "and in one of the pictures, it's highly suggested that these women were going to kiss or had just kissed."

Although Ewbank was appalled by what she saw and read, she points out that her efforts to do something about it have met with discouraging results. "It seems, so far, from the people I've talked to that, as a Christian, I have no right to demand that [the pro-homosexual poster] be removed from the wall of the school," she says.

But the Christian mom insists that something must be done about what she considers an age-inappropriate show of homosexual pride in an elementary school that enrolls students as young as age five. "I don't think children need to see that on a daily basis," she says. "It's hard enough to combat all the other things that they're teaching in schools that go against the Word of God, but that one -- I just can't stand for that."

Dismayed by what she sees happening in her tight-knit community, Ewbank is determined to take action. She says if homosexuality continues to be affirmed in the school, she plans to pull her children out and work with other parents to begin home schooling.

When did discrimination because of race, religion or sex get changed to "sexual orientation"........?

Doom on the trash that teaches and promotes such to "children".

"She says if homosexuality continues to be affirmed in the school, she plans to pull her children out and work with other parents to begin home schooling."

The Mother says if it continues.

IF.

She is going to wait and see. She has a plan to pull her children out if.

Okay. Right. She must have a stack of ironing and laundry waiting for her, a bunch of cookies to bake, errands to run, Mom's bowling league to run.

She feels good about her plan.

She is going to cross that bridge when she comes to it again. She's going to wait and see. Just one more time, and she really means it this time. There had better not be a next time.

The Mother says IF.

Phone is ringing.

They'd better not let her see any of that again or then she will...

There goes the buzzer on the dryer.

Homeschooling used as a threat does not reflect well on homeschoolers nor will such threat impress many public school administrators.

It's a seismically active area. More tremblers than California.

Of course, if earthquakes are linked to behavior, Winslow could explain the constant jiggling.

Didn't you know that there's no black and white definition of anything, it's all relative, and that boundaries, personal and otherwise are disallowed now?

No. The area north of I-40 (Winslow) to the Canyon is more active than San Francisco but they are much, much smaller.
This one is right on a fault which runs through the east edge of Red Gap Ranch and south to the Rim. South of the main area but still active.

The poster urges acceptance of all people

Ah, they have taken the next step and instead of tolerance they demand acceptance.

You're right about the "IF"s. As for homeschooling as a threat, I don't know if it reflects poorly or well on the community, but, it shouldn't be used as a threat based on logic. Don't threaten; do. It's harder and harder for public school parents to hear this -- I know. You do, too. But it needs to be done. Listen up, parents. Grab this (lame) bull by the horns and fix your family. Regarding impressing public school administrators.... phfbtt! Forget it. The bureaucratic sheep are a lost cause, and not AT ALL worth a second thought. Once you've left the system, that is. :-)

Oh I meant "impress school administrators" as in school administrators who would not be moved, motivated or concerned about one Mother's threat to withdraw her children from public school.

FYI, Thinkin' Gal found this 4.0 quake in Arizona. Thought you'd find it interesting.

Washington is a "performing" school. For a minority school they do rather well.

I seem to remember an Elementary teacher from Winslow with a radical agenda from an article or letter to the Star in advance of the NCLB. Probably the same one.

Oh wheeee.

Sad.

Winslow is an interesting place, to a point! LOL.

It will be so wonderful when The Lord is finished cleaning this sin soaked world up.

Thx.

The mom has considered such. I have a better idea -remove the teacher and the poster. Thus the message would be sent
that the school must return to that outdated idea of community support and moral instruction. But most parents are so comfortable with being utterly divorced from the
schools most parents do not give a fig what the public schools are teaching their children. So long as it does not interfere with watching Fear Factor--or Wheel of Fortune
when mum and pop get home from the rat race.

another site spoke of Muslim schools being exclusive -where
all other paroch schools are forced to be inclusive.Any
jokes aside I wish I had sent my children to any of the Catholic Schools locally Twelve years of godless leftist
indoctrination has militated my children against Christianity.

try saying it's never too late from the grave. I bet the
homosexual who has caught the bug would suggest they changed
their orientation too late.(Heavy sarcasm-probably totally
unwarrented in this situation)

The judicial system has a duty to remove Christianity--after all how can they --and th epublic school system
usher in that Brave new World if we Americans remember
from whence we came? They have to destroy the foundation
or we might return to rebuild what has been lost through our neglect.(seem to recall I read this -or something like it-somewhere)
