OSWIECIM, Poland -- Vice President Dick Cheney's utilitarian hooded parka and boots stood out amid the solemn formality of a ceremony commemorating the liberation of Nazi death camps, raising eyebrows among the fashion-conscious.
Cheney replaced the zipped-to-the-neck green parka he sported in Thursday's blowing snow and freezing wind with a more traditional black coat - red tie and gray scarf showing underneath - for his tour of Auschwitz on Friday.
Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan described Cheney's look at the deeply moving 60th anniversary service as "the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower."
"Cheney stood out in a sea of black-coated world leaders because he was wearing an olive drab parka with a fur-trimmed hood," Givhan wrote in Friday's Post, also mocking Cheney's knit ski cap embroidered with the words "Staff 2001" and his brown, lace-up hiking boots. "The vice president looked like an awkward child amid the well-dressed adults," she said.

I believe Auschwitz was actually liberated by the Russians, in January of 1945. We were on the western border of Germany at the time, the Russians approaching from the east through Poland.

That'll teach him about checking his baggage.
Have Joan Rivers and her horse-daughter weighed in yet?

I love the guy too! And I love that he simply drives the libs into foaming-at-the-mouth dementia!

Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan... "...is a peasant. When it's cold in America or going to the snow, you wear a beanie---boys, girls, men and women. No one else except Lynne in that picture is from America. He's surrounded by foreigners wearing russian type hats for gosh sake. Like I said, a peasant she is and a peasant she'll remain. Cheney grew up in Wyoming honey, and surely knows what keeps him warm".

No it was actually liberated by the Americans because Ronald Reagan greased the skids to the demise of the greater soviet empire that the traitor and fellow traveler socialist FDR handed over to the communists during WWII.

I hope they report on this FOREVER as a reminder
of Auschwitz' liberation versus the cold indifference which allowed it in the first place.
Without the flap over Cheney's outfit, this story
wouldn't even be a blip on the radar.
Now it's news.

She wrote a hit piece about the Bush twins Vogue photos.
She said that their dresses should have stayed on the rack... among other things.
I think the twins are refreshingly 'normal', in a world of fashion extremes.
I am Napoleon!

The Europeans wore black to signify the death they dealth to the Jewish community in WWII. Cheny wore green during winter to singnify Life and the hope of life enternal. Gosh, for the MSM to misinterept this is a sin.

I don't care how they call him on it he was protected from the cold having to sit for about 2 hours in freezing conditions when you have had 4 heart attacks is no fun.
He wore clothes in Auschwitz that he obviously knew from previous experience would protect him and allow him to remain out in the cold freezing snowy weather. When he placed the candle he took off the hat and gloves and put the hood of the coat down so he did show respect.
What none of these reporters have mentioned is that this man is 64 on Sunday and has had 4 heart attacks they soon enough mention this when they want to say he is not up to doing something or is a liability. Now they are inferring that he is capable of withstanding the winter conditions as though he is a fit spring chicken as usual the MSM want their cake and to eat it. To infer it was for his own comfort rather than his health is beyond the pale and is despicable.
As for the hiking boots they were obviously to stop him from slipping on the snow and were probably boots he wears at home regularly and again feels safe in them in this weather. He is a man who coming from WY is used to these conditions and knows what he needs to wear to combat them. He obviously wore clothes that were old not brand new or borrowed gear such as Kerry did on the campaign trail. Again he is showing he is no protected flower but a real man who despite his health issues obviously does regularly go out and about in this weather and owns and wears the clothes to prove it.
I think you can tell I am hopping mad.
These people forget it is Dick Cheney and his colleagues that are protecting them and despite all they say about him he will continue to do so.
Today he was walking about all the time so the long black overcoat is fine but would not keep out freezing weather if you were sitting in it. The VP is a prudent man and this is why he is still able to have an incredible schedule because he does what he has to ensure that he can live a normal life and if that does mean wearing a green parka, hiking boots and a ski hat that is fine by me.

While true - stop and think!!
It just may be that his parka also just happened to have a KEVLAR lining - i.e. as SS issue since the overall security for this event was lousily and anyone with deer rifle and scope could do some real damage from a good distance.
Never mind his health issues.

I do the same thing going to work. I am a female and I dress like the Michelin Man when I go out in these frigid temperatures and I see some women with no hat and short coats shivering their brains off. I smile because I am warm and they are too worried about being a fashion plate to dress warm and they are suffering. Good for Cheney - he is taking care of himself.

**If it were Clinton, they'd praise his trendsetting fashion sense**
If it was Clinton they would say he was wearing modern hip gear that would protect him after his heart surgery but they cut no such slack to the VP who not only in the past has had heart surgery but 4 heart attacks. The fact that he was there at all is remarkable in itself whilst the likes of Tony Blair and Bill Clinton were attending an economic conference with "BONO"

gotta admit my friend, you have me totally confused...The Russian liberated the camp and as far as what FDR and Churchill did, well it was almost impossible not to give the Russians as hated as they were anything less than part of the spoils.....remember, they were fighting Hitler on the Eastern front far longer than we were in the war and they lost millions and millions of people. The allies hands were kind of tied and you can't single out FDR, there were alot of others that brought this about

If it were Clinton they wouldn't have brought it up. The man was wearing a coat. I don't see the big deal.
