Cheney Mocked By Media Over Auschwitz Attire
Associated Press ^ | January 28, 2005 | seattlepi.newsource.com

OSWIECIM, Poland -- Vice President Dick Cheney's utilitarian hooded parka and boots stood out amid the solemn formality of a ceremony commemorating the liberation of Nazi death camps, raising eyebrows among the fashion-conscious.

Cheney replaced the zipped-to-the-neck green parka he sported in Thursday's blowing snow and freezing wind with a more traditional black coat - red tie and gray scarf showing underneath - for his tour of Auschwitz on Friday.

Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan described Cheney's look at the deeply moving 60th anniversary service as "the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower."

"Cheney stood out in a sea of black-coated world leaders because he was wearing an olive drab parka with a fur-trimmed hood," Givhan wrote in Friday's Post, also mocking Cheney's knit ski cap embroidered with the words "Staff 2001" and his brown, lace-up hiking boots. "The vice president looked like an awkward child amid the well-dressed adults," she said.

Look closer => on one of the threads WITHIN the patch, it says:

Property of Halliburton

I surprised in the MSM's rush to get this very important story out on the wire, they completely failed to make a Halliburton connection, like:

The cousin of Cheney's uncle's sister, who heard from a janitor, that one of Halliburton's founding lineage -- the same one who actually hire Cheney -- was the chemist who invented Zyklon - B.

It does reveal the superficial nature of this fashion critic that what matters most to her is what the people at the event are wearing, and not the gravity of the atrocities that the event commemorates.

Think you are right. He has wings on his left side and a unit insignia on the right. Just a guess, but he probably borrowed the jacket from one of the crew on AF 2.

I love the guy but he looked like he was ready for an Antartic Expedition

You ever been through a Polish winter????? This is just typical mean pettiness on the part of the ComPost, or Pravda-on-the-Potomac!

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that all of the Oh-So Chicly garbed "ambassadors" are all huddled up? Hugging themselves for warmth, while Cheny looks like he's
comfortably relaxed. Awaiting kickoff from the 50 yard line.

More power to you, Mr. VP!

That's definitely an AF Hooded parka. Waterproofed and ncredibly well insulated. The patch is propbably from the 89th Squadron at Andrews AFB. Nearly all dignitary and DV (Distinguished Visitor) flights originate there.

Jack.

Dude...lighten up.....I think the issue is silly as most MSM stuff is......I initially said he stuck out like a sore thumb........where in that is any indication of anything more than a simple little smirk at our VP....my very solid Republicanism allows me that freedom and I'll bet he would smile at that too.......some people here, not you, get defensive far too quickly......most likely cause it is Friday and have been battling the DUmmies all week

"I'm not dissing the guy.....I thought he looked ready for an expedition"

I think he looks like he waiting his turn to go down the sledding hill.

I'm going sledding saturday at snowman hill just below Mt. Shasta, and I wish I had his coat. LOL, way to go Mr. VP.

Liberals are always into fashion it seems, even if they really have no sense for it often. Look at Geraldo...he has a hurricane outfit, a flood outfit, a mudslide outfit, a whole set of Afghanistan and Iraq outfits, etc. They are more concerned with how they look than the situation they're involved in or covering.

Didn't Robin Givhan get the hell beat out of her by Mike Tyson?

That was GIVENS.... This Robin Givhan is the ComPost's fashion/style writer. She once said of Katherine Harris 'that she layered on the foundation with a trowel'.

The folks that I know that are so engrossed "fashion" also tend to be the worst-dressed, in my mind. They pay so much attention to wearing what is trendy that they don't even realize that what they're wearing doesn't look good on them.

The soviets never "liberated" a dam thing, just traded one form of subjugation for another.
