OSWIECIM, Poland -- Vice President Dick Cheney's utilitarian hooded parka and boots stood out amid the solemn formality of a ceremony commemorating the liberation of Nazi death camps, raising eyebrows among the fashion-conscious.
Cheney replaced the zipped-to-the-neck green parka he sported in Thursday's blowing snow and freezing wind with a more traditional black coat - red tie and gray scarf showing underneath - for his tour of Auschwitz on Friday.
Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan described Cheney's look at the deeply moving 60th anniversary service as "the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower."
"Cheney stood out in a sea of black-coated world leaders because he was wearing an olive drab parka with a fur-trimmed hood," Givhan wrote in Friday's Post, also mocking Cheney's knit ski cap embroidered with the words "Staff 2001" and his brown, lace-up hiking boots. "The vice president looked like an awkward child amid the well-dressed adults," she said.
blaahahahahah! I just love it.
He looks as if he is trying to make friends with the Canadians. Maybe he just wanted to give the euro-snobs something to write about.
hey .....no kidding and Calif has some of the highest snow falls in the nation next to Alaska....so many of us do too. I just said he stuck out.....we need to relax and begin our weekend wine fest...
for your amusement:
"You leave little notes. I hate little notes. Yesterday, you left a note that say, 'Oscar, we're out of Corn Flakes. F. U.' It was three hours before I realized that 'F.U.' was Felix Unger!"
TS
Perhaps they'd rather he caught cold and died from heat complications.
Leave it to the superficial idiots to make fools of themselves.
Clothes do NOT make the man.
When you are as hot as Cheny you can wear whatever you want!
Eek! That dress does not become her.
When you have severe heart disease, you are more susceptible to catching colds - which can be fatal if the infection ends up landing in your heart. Unfortunately, I have first hand experience with this fact.
In addition, because you circultion is poor, you get cold (temperature wise not nasal wise) easily.
Give Cheney a break.....You and I both know he meant no disrespect.
He looks warm and toasty to me; he's just fine. Screw the Euro-weenie trash.
I don't think there's any question he has a bad heart condition. He's had three heart attacks and a quadruple bypass before becoming VP. After the 2000 election, he had another mild heart attack, causing the doctors to insert a stent. A few months later he had chest pains due to a blocked artery that required surgery. A few months after that and he had a pacemaker installed.
Have a nice day! :)
Maybe the media should worry about what Prince Harry is wearing and not Cheney. Wasn't the prince supposed to go with his Dad?
haha.......i just said he stuck out...that was my initial post and people here got so upset.......you have to laugh at some thing.s......plus I have to ask...if he has that severe of heart disease, then doesn't it show lack or respect of ignorance to send him to a hostile environment to begin with.....that argument won't fly.....plus I'm not dissing the guy.....I thought he looked ready for an expedition.....what in that sentence is wrong of made you upset
Aye, Caramba. You beat me. We remembered the same thing. Only I remembered the time a little different.
Dude, he's in a death camp and a Wash Post FASHION critic is reviewing his coat attire! The real question is what does one wear to a site of a mass grave in 32 degree weather when you have a heart ailment?
Hillary is always dressed improperly and no one comments. Bill Clinton could wear that to the same occasion and they'd all be impressed with how cool he was or whatever. It is too bad the parka wasn't black but then they'd find something else to comment on in a derogatory way. Another passing trivial story to add to the hundreds of others.
This sounds just like the left. More worried about appearance than substance.
Of course, they didn't seem to think it was a big deal when Kerry looked less than presidential when he visited NASA.
