Legendary rock drummer and Hall of Fame inductee Jim Capaldi died on Friday after a brief fight with stomach cancer, his publicist said.

The 60-year-old Capaldi, born in England of Italian immigrant parents, died in his sleep at the London Clinic in the early hours with his wife and family at his bedside.

Capaldi, whose driving rock rhythms and songwriting ability helped make groundbreaking band Traffic a household name in the 1960s and '70s with -- among others -- Steve Winwood and Dave Mason -- also had an illustrious solo career.

Winwood lives in TN?

Yeah, and so does Peter Frampton. Kind of funny in a way, these British guys in Nashville.

Cool about Allen Jackson! And Steve Winwood .... If he lived near me I'd let people know.

Actually, I'm in KnoxVegas. I don't know if the wintry mix will get this way or not.

Nashville's a great town. The perfect size, with lots to do. I lived in Murfreesboro for four years while I was in school at MTSU, then stayed and worked for two years after. Nashville was a quick twenty-five minute car ride away for weekend fun.

The only way Nashville could be improved would be to pick it up and drop it where Knoxville is, so it'd have the mountains.

it's not so much their proficency as an individual artist as it was their piece of the puzzle they brought to the table.
look at george harrison, never one to rip off huge guitar leads but the licks he layed down for each piece the beatles performed could not be improved upon. no big ego, just pure talent for the slot in history he lived.

I luv music. I suspect much of what you're terming "music" perhaps isn't. But I admit, I don't listen to country near as much as many of the other channels, because I really don't like it.

I can take only so much of Third Day. But one group I really like is Tree 63. I also really like Linconl Brewster. Man, what a guitar player. And Tait. BTW, have you heard Andy Hunter and Echoing Green? Very techno.

I'm sure you're right if you are a fan of Traffic overall, which I wasn't. No biggie. I never "got" the Band or Grateful Dead, either.

Aw, damn it man. Traffic may be considered a little bit "before my time" (since I'm only 22), but their classic tune Dear Mr. Fantasy has always been one of my favorite songs-- a mellow, affirming, early-morning groove that never fails to get me going on a tough day.

RIP Jim, and say hello to Moon and Bonzo for me.
