NEW YORK - Procter & Gamble Co., the leading U.S. maker of household products whose brands include Crest, Pampers, Tide and Charmin, is buying the razor and battery maker Gillette Co. for $57 billion in a deal that will create the world's biggest consumer-products enterprise, the companies announced Friday.

The merger, which must still be approved by regulators and shareholders, would create a company with revenues of more than $60 billion that would have even greater clout against mass-market retailers like Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which have been pressuring consumer product suppliers to keep costs low.

Worthy of note.

Wonder what this does to Dobson's boycott of P&G?

No change, it will remain ineffective.

Why does he boycott PG?

Because he's an AMWAY distributor?

The author shows his ignorance and his bias. Wal-Mart and P&G have been business partners for well over 20 years. Wal-Mart sells more P&G products than any other retailer in the world.

Granted that WalMart and P&G already have a good relationship. However, even the morning news in Cincy pointed out that in controlling more highly sought consumer products P&G will be even more valuable to WalMart.

WalMart controls the shelves and P&G the products.

P&G backed a cincinnati referendum to repeal a "No Gay Preference" ordinance.

It was a cincinnati local ordinance and P&G has one of those "trans-national" corporation ethical perspectives.

There is no longer any Amway. Please educate yourself.

And besides that the company founded by Rich DeVos and Jay VanAndel NEVER promoted or condoned a Proctor and Game boycott.

if we had a functioning SEC, this merger would be stopped on anti-competitive grounds.

The Proctor and Gamble boycott came from Christians objecting to the stars and the moon symbols on the P and G products> Ring a bell? What symbol and (currently in the news) mid-east entity does that bring to mind.

FoxNews just showed Warren Buffet saying he loves the deal and it's a buy....he expects to have 100,000,000 of P&G before too long. (I didn't hear if he meant dollars or shares???...if shares that would be about $5,000,000,000.)

This sounds like it'll be broadcast as a blue chip buy time.

No, AMWAY merely changed their name.
The mile long plant is still there, still producing product. (About 5 miles from me.)
