JORDAN'S MIRACLE (Newborn Receives Heart Transplant)
New York Post ^ | 1/28/05 | ERIN CALABRESE and RITA DELFINER

A miraculous lifesaving transplant came in the nick of time for newborn Jordan Trimarchi, who now has a new heart beating in his tiny chest and a fighting chance at a healthy life.

On Wednesday — three days after The Post told the world about the plight of the baby born with a heart tumor almost as large as the organ itself — word came that a donor heart was available.

The 21/2-hour surgery was performed that evening on 9-day-old Jordan, who had just spent a dangerous fifth day on a heart-lung-kidney bypass machine.

Jordan received a heart from an out-of-state donor, but the infant's parents were not identified because of privacy laws.

An emotional Sadaf Trimarchi thanked the mom and dad who donated the heart of a child they lost so that her baby could be saved.

"I can't imagine what they went through to be able to give a gift of life in a time of such tragedy," she said.

Jordan's dad said: "We hope to meet them some day. Of course, if they wish to remain anonymous, we respect that."

Quaegebeur said that when Jordan was 3 days old, "we removed a tumor the size of a golf ball out of his heart. And the heart of a baby is not much bigger than a golf ball." The tumor "occupied almost completely the left ventricle" and couldn't all be removed because it had infiltrated the ventricle wall, he said.

Jordan's blood type is B and the donor's heart is AB.

But for newborns "there is a window of time they can receive a transplant from a blood donor that was completely different from theirs," said Dr. Linda Addonizio, medical director of the hospital's pediatric cardiac transplant program.

This is wonderful! Is this our little Jordan Zane, for whom we were praying?

God is good, to love us all so much. On days when miracles seem rare, it is days such as these which should be remembered...

Heavenly Father, we return with tear-stained hearts to thank You for the miracle of life that You have twice given to baby Jordan. Prosper this child, O God, that he might grown in grace. May dew drops of mercy fall upon the parents whose very essence of life beats in another child. What miracles You have wrought, O God ... we bow before You in adoration and praise. In the Name of Jesus, Amen ...
