KAHUKU, Hawaii (AP) - Arnold Palmer married fiancee Kathleen Gawthrop in an intimate beachside ceremony on Oahu's North Shore.
Palmer and Gawthrop exchanged nuptials Wednesday evening in a beachfront cottage near the Arnold Palmer Course at the Turtle Bay Resort, where the four-time Masters champion will play at this weekend's Champions Tour event.
Palmer, 75, was married once before. His wife of 45 years, Winnie, died in 1999.
Gawthrop, of Tiburon, Calif., has three children from a prior marriage and five grandchildren.
Good for Arnie.
Good for Arnie..he didn't wed someone younger than his own kids, and he waited a few years...he continues to be a very classy guy..in all respects..
I hope Kathleen takes care of Arnie's balls like his previous wife did (Johnny Carson urban legend reference)
Absolutely.
Winnie was quite the lady to grace Arnie's arm.
I'm sure Kathleen is equal to the task.
I agree, good for Arnie. He had a wonderful and enduring first marriage. A great golfer, solid Conservative, and class act all the way. Golf has produced a lot of class acts over the years, one of the reasons I love it more and more as I lose interest in other sports I used to follow.
Then I guess there's no real need for pictures.
God Bless You Arine, we love ya around these parts! A good all American boy! My dream is to play a round of golf with you some day!
Some of the wives figure the golf balls have
too many dents..they prefer the putter with the longer
shaft... Jake
Congratulations to Arnie and Kathleen. I hope they have 20 happy years!
What? Is he gay?
Did some googling ... no pictures of Kathleen that I could find. She's 10 years younger than Arnold.
It's no legend that there is a plaque at the 18th of Rancho where he took a TWELVE! on the last day of the tourney to lose the LA Open I think in c1958. Everytime I bogey I think of that plaque....
Husband and wife are lying in bed, he watching TV, she reading. she asks him a question
W: If I died, would you remarry?
H: Possibly, after a few years, if I found someone like you
later, another question
W: If I died, and you remarried, would you stay in this house?
H: I think so, because I like it here. it's very comfortable
Later
W: If I died, and you remarried, and you stayed in this house, would you let your new wife wear my jewelry?
H: Well, I'd let the children have what they wanted, but if I did remarry, I might give her some of your jewelry; it would remind me of you.
Later
W: If I died, and your remarried, and stayed in this house, and gave her my jewelry, would you give her my golf clubs?
H: Nope. She's left-handed..
We once lived in one of those condos at Turtle Bay in Kuhuku and to this day we miss the place. Think fantastically wonderful weather plus great views and a super golf course, all in one place. Can't afford that luxury anymore, more's the pity. Poverty chupa!
Yup... I've seen that plaque... and I can honestly say that I've beaten Arnie by 5 strokes on that hole!
wonderful to read such good news and wishing all happiness to the newlyweds !
LOL, I remember that joke. Very funny.
